N26 Discussion

I also got my invite today.
Went through the sign-up process on their site at the end of which I was asked to continue the process in-app.
I selected the passport verification option.
The app then performed a network strength check, which repeatedly fails - even though I’m in the same room as my router (and my phone’s settings screen says the network strength is excellent).

I could try it when I’m on my university campus tomorrow, but I think I’ll pass, they are putting too many obstacles in the way to fully signing up (in my view at least).

They do have, however one thing I never found in any other bank is that hey charge a penalty of 3 Euros if a direct debit hits your account and it’s refused because you don’t have funds to cover it. So they refuse the debit and leave you with a negative 3 balance

N26 does that? I’m out.

That’s quite common here in the UK though, with the likes of Barclays charging around £8 per failed direct debit.

Had never heard of such thing before N26, no bank here in Portugal does such thing.

Before the rise of fintechs I also had never heard of cash withdrawal limits or fees to withdraw cash…

I finally got my invite tonight at 8.31pm! Perfect time to send invites out. Decided on the driving licence route so just waiting for the verification now.

Interested to try out, even with its flaws as it could be my spending account and I can finally move my main account to Monzo or maybe Starling when I can re-register.

I always wondered whether you can register for Starling again more quickly with an invite. Want to try?

I’ve joined Starling Bank. You can get access to an account too by using this referral code: ZA9RW7FG

I think it’s the same, I was declined due to a few credit issues, hoping I get in next Feb when my 12 months is up now my credit is a lot better.

I have to wait until the morning. When I emailed Starling last week, they stated the 16th would be fine. I tried earlier today and my closed account was still ‘registered’. I will try tomorrow!

Probably a long shot

Just waiting for my driving lesson to be verified as had my N26 invite tonight.

I didn’t realise Starling credit check! - I don’t have the best credit record, and got accepted earlier on in the year with no problems.

See, I thought the same.

Read through MSE forums and it seems a few others who have bad credit were declined also. I’m definitely not on any CIFAS either, very strange.

Are you on the electoral roll? - They might have trouble electronically verifying you.

Yup! I had a default registered literally a week before on my credit report, it was invalid and is now gone. Credit is a bit wrecked from it, even though it’s gone because it’s not gone from all credit agencies, but will be gone by the new year hopefully!

Get a statutory report from all the CRAs and see if anything looks out of place. If the company was happy to remove the default then you should see it reflected on those reports; if not get in touch with the CRA and they’ll investigate (they are actually quite good at resolving any issues, I’ve removed plenty of inaccurate/incorrect/irrelevant data from my reports that way).

That’s not how N26 works though. When you leave the app during queue or chat, an immediate notification is delivered saying return in 2 minutes or the chat will be closed. So you have a 2 minute window regardless of whether talking with an agent or not.

N26 rejected my UK driving licence and my photo. I must have aged so much in the last year since I had a new photo added

10 hours to get access from registration, not bad!

The actual app reminds me of the Tandem app when it was in beta, very easy to navigate but very sparse.

It is just a current account with pots. End.

I guess if I was an N26 banker from another European location I’d have brand loyalty and hence I’d want to open an account, I did it because A I’m nosey and B I hope they come out with some amazing products in the future and I want to be ready.

Update on the CRA - they aren’t reporting to any CRA until they launch anything with credit (overdrafts etc).
