Multiple accounts from linked provider; multi-currency

Issue:

I have three accounts (as in IBANs) with HSBC:

  • regular current account (because I couldn’t open anything else without it)
  • ‘currency’ account, a current account denominated in one of the available non-GBP currencies
  • ‘global money’ account, a pre-paid debit type account accepting balances in various currencies - i.e. it has not just one but multiple balances, although in my case all but one are nil - it is however a single account with a single card that allows paying in local currency without conversion at time of payment.

I have HSBC as a linked account in Monzo, which automatically finds all three and allows me to add them.

So far so good - sorry it’s a lot of context - the problem is that the three linked accounts are then indistinguishable except by balance and currency, what I see currently in Monzo is:

  • HSBC - CA$0.00
  • HSBC - £0.00
  • HSBC - £0.00

I don’t know which of the latter two is the current account and which is the global money account unless I click into them and compare account numbers or transaction history.

Further, the global money account’s balance is not really 0, its GBP balance is 0, true enough, but overall it has a non-zero CAD balance.

This presents strangely if I click into it (and then try again to get the right one!) - it shows £0.00 balance and a total transaction history of a single entry depositing CAD.

Multiple accounts issue: open multiple accounts at a single provider under one internet banking login; link it to Monzo.

Multiple currency issue: open an HSBC Global Money account; link it to Monzo; make a non-GBP transfer into it.

OS: Android
Device: Pixel 10
App Version: 7.16.0 (and I’m in the beta programme)

My suggestion would be that the Global Money account shows the non-zero balances, or at least a live conversion to GBP total if there’s no good way to show multiple in the UI.

Ability to rename the linked accounts would solve the other issue, or perhaps if there’s information about ‘account type’ in Open Banking that could be sufficient to disambiguate and describe them in the presence of multiple from a single provider. (i.e. I would not propose changing the name of ‘Lloyds Bank’ in the screenshot below, because there’s only the single entry.)

You’d need to ask HSBC to update how they show the data to external linked accounts afaik.
