Monzo to raise more money

I think we need to factor a few things in this new round beyond the customer metrics

A substantial increase in revenue annual revenue according to Tom during the previously held Monzo event.

More revenue avenues (loans and etc)

I see them raising at £5bn pre money valuation. I don’t think anything less than that.

good luck with that , I wouldn’t complain though , but as well as revenue increasing, so have costs …substantially…so wouldn’t warrant that sort of valuation in my opinion …who knows  can’t wait to find out though if a funding round does happen

Certainly possible in today’s valuation climate.

Monzo will need to get the money in whilst VC is cheap (and before the impending mooted recession on the horizon). So a 5 or even 6 billion valuation is completely possible.

Maybe SoftBank will put the money up!

I think SoftBank are too busy with the fall out of the WeWork pulled IPO disaster to make more high value investments.

I think the markets want to see a profit before anymore IPOs take place in the tech sector.

Hopefully Monzo will break even 2021 and then float 2022

But this is just my guess

5 to 6bn is certainly the range they can justify in the current climate.

Few questions

when you say they - who are you referring to .
How would you justify that value - what have you based your calculations on.
is your statement a finger in the air guess

If you used the customer vs value method suggests earlier in this thread
Your valuation suggests 500,000 customers = 1 Billion in value even if the majority are costing Monzo money rather than making them money.

Honestly id rather theyd focus on buisness banking first rather than raising for the us expansion.

Both have gone very stale and uk business accounts seem more like the one ready to make the money now rather than raising on potential

Interesting point you make. I’m surprised they’re looking to tackle US before really proving the model works here in the U.K.

Monzo accounts make up half the UK challenger bank market share. I’d say that counts as proving their model. The model being that first mover advantage works for a heck of a lot, and likely why they want to try and replicate this in the US rather than pull a Starling and build the product first but get overtaken by another first mover in the meantime.

I don’t know that the number of customers is the same as proving the model and business is sustainable and capable of generating profit. I might be wrong but is Monzo able to sustain at the moment without investment? I know customers bring in money but they also cost money to service

There is zero chance that Monzo can aim at 5-6B valuation, when Revolut is getting 7.5B and Chime 5B in the US.

I’d really rather they didn’t, which is why they won’t. The crowdfunded shares are held together currently, so it be controversial to unlock some and sell.

Also, they want to raise money, they shouldn’t need to waste time worrying about your 150 shares, no offence…

3x the accounts, not customers. Be clear about that. Also, active users Monzo > than Revolut…

Monzo are Revolut are essentially at the same point. Revolut are going to demand a much greater sum, keep an eye on the pre-money valution, they’ll be very similar.

Wondered how long it would take for @Lampran to arrive and start degrading the conversation to insults.

Are you referring to me re the 150 shares remark as I have 15 times that - so feel free to correct your post if you are talking to me.

For someone who insists they are a share holder but prefers not to have an investor badge suggests to me you hold no shares and just spend your days on forums belittling real share holders - feel free to prove me wrong and get a investor badge on your icon - at least I will then know you really have a stake in Monzo

I know several people who prefer not to have the investors flair, it means nothing by not having it

As we have now reached an unproductive point I’m going to close this, pending staff review
