Haha no your amazing; I just mean we’re the only two people on the forum who’s using 16-17, that’s why it was depressing.
It was clearly a joke
It was, indeed, a joke. I forgot to add a wink or /s.
Jo is fine - any 16 year old choosing to spend time on a finance forum to learn about finances is alright in my book. It suggests some level of sensibility.
It beats being on Fortnite 24/7 and screaming profanities at other players… (is that still a thing? I’m 37 and probably behind the times… again).
Ughhh, I’m 24 and I do this on COD
Apex here
Cannot stand people my age that still play fortnite. I’m out here working and I see peoples instagram stories of them saying that they’ve sat for 11hrs on fortnite the whole day…
The simple things in life - I suppose haha.
Mostly down to your life path being different to theirs.
It’s admirable a young person goes to work, but I don’t think it’s the norm as they are usually in school and don’t have to worry about housing or other essentials.
I don’t have to worry about housing etc now. Which is more than a relief.
It seems to be the same people that complain about having no money and beg their families for some.
That’s living in society of not being grateful for what you already have.
There’s nothing wrong with spending 11hrs on a game. I personally don’t/can’t do it, but it’s all about balance and what makes you happy.
Work, time for yourself, family time, education - it’s tricky to get right.
Social media heavily distorts this as people don’t post the boring stuff they do, only the fun things.
Pretty sure I spent longer that that on gaming during lockdown
I spent 10 hours raid-healing on WoW one day during lockdown (aged 58 at the time) and I felt completely shattered the next day.
Yeah completely get it if you’re unable to do something else that would improve your finances or personal life.
Much like myself in lockdown!
Why does that matter? Not everyone is driven by money or career goals, and that’s perfectly fine.
Let people do whatever makes them happy
100% agree… but don’t be sat at home not contributing to society over fortnite.
Sorry to bump this thread.
Anyways, does Monzo have any plans to bring International transfers to 16-17s accounts anytime soon?
Like for example in the Starling App, I can literally just create a payee and send a payment just like normal:
Whereas with Monzo, I get this screen:
Now this is an improvement on before when it said “Log into Wise” or “Create a Wise account”, but then when you clicked on the button, it would give you an error. So in that sense, it’s been improved. However, I still think 16-17’s should still be able to send international payments. Your main FinTech competitor allows for it…
I understand that Monzo uses Wise for it’s international transfers (which is 18+), which is fine, however I feel that Monzo should be providing an alternative to its younger users.
For example, Monzo could make and send the payment on the behalf of the child, or something like that? Is this something Monzo is looking at doing? Yes, I know there’s literally a million and one more important things to do, but is this even remotely being considered?
Any Hot Coral Team people on here working on the 16-17s product? This is a feature that would be useful to at least one person (me).
If Monzo isn’t going to introduce the feature (which is fine), would it be possible for Monzo to remove the option from 16-17’s user’s apps?
100% not needed. No child is or should not be sending money abroad, if they are its a scam/money mule.
Hmm. Both Starling Bank and NatWest offer the feature, so there’s obviously people using it, or they would take the feature away/disable it.
Extremely pedantic of me, but what if I wanted to send money to my brother in Germany and I only had Monzo? In this case, I have two other banks w/ more on the way. But there’s probably people out there who don’t have this option.
Honestly this is actually a really good point. I guess they’re protecting their younger users (and I can’t blame them from doing this). They could have the payment go through additional checks though, with like a mandatory reference and explanation as to what the payment is about. And payment limits (such as like £500 international payments per month or something). Idk. there’s ways they could make it safer, whilst still offering the feature in my opinion.
I honestly don’t believe a child has any interest sending money internationally.
The financial risk isn’t worth it as children are generally ignorant and don’t understand risk.
Agreed. Just seems like some missed revenue that Monzo could be making, that’s all.
I definitely am being pedantic over this. No-one realistically would use it. Therefore, can they remove the option from the app so that the payment flow for 16-17’s users is simpler. This is actually a decent idea. Alongside extra text and warnings against scams, as that seems to be something that my generation seems particularly susceptible to. I know of at least two people at school who were scammed (although only for a smallish amount of £50-£100, so it wasn’t a life changing scam).
Monzo is very good at removing certain parts of the app for U18’s, so why is international transfers still an option, even if it does nothing
