It’s hard work posting in here. Let’s accept that it’s a rubbish deal for almost everyone.
All the ‘features’ available in Monzo Plus are free with other providers.
That isn’t the case and never has been.
It is the case. Obviously it’s not a single product, but if you want virtual cards, go to starling. If you want open banking use (for example) Halifax. If you want to budget open a spreadsheet. If you want an orange card then that’s just weird.
What Plus gives me is the best combination of features. Starling’s virtual cards can only be used with a pot/space, so that’s out for me.
I like being able to see all of my accounts in my Monzo feed and included in Trends (and they are all supported in my case). Only Emma competes with that but is getting very irritating with its constant promotional pop-ups.
I also like the blue holo card but that’s just a bonus because I rarely use a physical card.
Any idea why my Google Pay card is orange (I’ve got Plus but never applied for a blue card) yet my Joint card turned white on Google Pay despite not upgrading it?
Does it make you feel all tingly when you call it orange?
I’d call it hot coral but that’s not a colour
Yeah I absolutely don’t go off Pantone, like every single other person I’ve ever known.
Every day is a school day.
It’s a well known fact that most men only recognise the 16 colours of Windows 95 Safe Mode.
My wife: “If you’re going upstairs can you fetch my cerise top?”
Me: “Which red one is that?”
Literally no one is going “I’m not paying a fiver when I can open a Halifax account and do my own spreadsheet”.
(Except you.)
I subscribe to Plus, I’m simply pointing out that all these features are available elsewhere free of charge.
While you’re at it. Make the Preoum Card Black or at least give us a couple of colour option choices in '24 like the mid range card. My white card is flamin fithy and I dont like it. Next. Avios. Let’s get involved somehow. £180 per year should at least get us access to one elite membership scheme. Travel oriented makes sense given your zero fees on currency.
Let’s go! Thats my ask. Ask the team to leverage for more!
Actually, I think he/she isn’t wrong.
I just switched to Monzo. But was surprised that the credit score thingy was ‘plus’ when RBS, Lloyds all gave it for free.
They also let you add other other accounts and include them in the spending and budgeting features.
And I used to use virtual cards in Revolut all the time.
That said, I like Monzo’s capabilities more than the high street banks. And it’s nice it has all these features in one place.
But it still feels like they’re just trying to throw basic stuff into ‘Plus’ to make you think it’s worth paying for. When really they could actually include something worth having. Maybe some basic phone insurance, just anything more tangible.
Still can’t get over what good value nationwide flex is for example. With family phone, travel insurance, breakdown all for £13pm. Doesn’t make Monzo premium look like good value in comparison.
Name me one other account that offers all these features for free in one place. I am no fan on Monzo charging for features, but fair is fair. Yes, you can connect banks for free but you don’t get trends. Yes, you can get packaged insurance, but you don’t get virtual cards.
Plus and premium as products, while they could do with a refresh perhaps, are in their whole more than the sum of their parts.
They are wrong. That is a fact. Whether you find it value for money, convenience or anything else is up to the individual, but there are things included in Monzo Plus that are not free elsewhere.
Not a bank. Wouldn’t trust my money there.
Not even close to the level of Monzo.
Guys you forget that every open banking connection costs money. This can never be free. I guess Monzo is not using aggregator apis and has built their own but it still costs money. Besides all the Trends functionality is on par with Emma, which as you know also costs money
Not quite - no manual accounts in Monzo, so you can’t get a complete ‘net worth’ figure. You can’t edit recurring transactions, either (other than disabling the recurrence).
I second the idea of leaning into the travel aspect via joining the Avios scheme!
Would certainly make my household keep more of our monthly spending in Monzo.
Nor rename/change dates / split external ones. But I’d say budgeting in general and charts are even better in Monzo.
