I don’t think bumping up the cost for everyone would have gone down well or been the better solution.
Not everyone needs breakdown cover - even people like me who have a car.

I’ve posted a comment with pricing after doing some more calcs but it seems to have got stuck in an approval queue.
I currently have RAC breakdown cover, so would definitely value this package over my current one. Assuming both me and my SO can be covered which I’m not sure is the case but need to check.
Agree though, I’d rather this model than the “bundle everything together for everyone” model.

Nope I didn’t say that. Had they included breakdown cover for Monzo Premium ONLY at the same price (£15) - I would’ve taken it. This would’ve enticed a lot of people to upgrade to Premium from the free account or from Plus at no extra cost to those who don’t have cars/want breakdown cover.
Right now, I can get phone & travel insurance, and breakdown cover for £13 a month with Nationwide. Imho, everything Premium & Plus offer at this stage is a gimmick.
Edit: not only that, but my whole family is covered under Nationwide - is this the case with Monzo’s insurance/breakdown options?
Of course you would.
But Monzo need to make money, not give things away for free.

Who doesn’t love free things. It was the “missed a trick” thing I wasn’t understanding.
I posted the T&Cs earlier. I think it’s just for the one person / vehicle.
I think the issues here are that it’s incorrect to say Monzo offer breakdown cover any more than saying Monzo offer, say, a discount on HelloFresh.
It’s an offer for Monzo customers, Monzo aren’t offering breakdown cover.
It’s a delicate difference. I don’t think Monzo should have announced it quite as they have.

Shame its with RAC, they are one of the worst breakdown services, everyone i know has left them due to waiting for hours for them to turn up and then they break promises for recovery.
Good idea, but poor choice of partner…

That’s my fault from naming the topic title although as you say they technically are offering it to you. They’re not forcing you to spend more to have it, so you have a choice to take it or leave it.
It’s not for me either, but some people in this topic have already signed up so it clearly hits the mark. It doesn’t upset me enough to cancel my subscription and if savvy shoppers want to shop around and get better deals elsewhere then that’s great too. They’ll never please everyone.
They are offering it to us yes, but I do think there is a difference between them providing an offer and offering it to us in the same manner as travel insurance.
It’s perhaps a picky nuanced difference but I think if you can get your head around it then it reduces some of the initial “um… they are charging extra for an additional feature?” comments.

Haha yeah I see what you’re saying. I’m sure some creative word nerds can perhaps think of a better way of phasing it but it’s way out of my league

I guess just saying “Hey guys we’ve updated our offers to include some discounts on RAC cover for our Plus and Premium members!”
But yeah, it’s not the easiest distinction to make, so just make a word up I guess, see how it sticks

Now we’re really into it, I thought you’d pay that £5 to Monzo, but it appears you pay it to RAC.
So it’s less of a bundling and more of an offer? Deal? Discountered?

It’s not a bundle at all, just an offer.
I have, myself, been through this journey over the thread. From a bundling idea to what it is, a straight up offer that isn’t a part of the premium packages, just an offer.
I get 10% cashback on Costa with NatWest but I wouldn’t say that NatWest now offer cheaper coffee, just that it’s an offer I can get now.

Yeah its just an introductory merchant/retailer offer like the other things in the offers section.
There’s also an introductory Naked Wines offer in the offers section but I don’t think anyone who opts to use that offer would say they have wine delivery as an optional add-on to their Monzo plus/premium.

AA isn’t any better.
RAC is alright. They arrived quickly when we stuck on motorway.
… I waited ~2 hours at home. They promised 30 mins… flat battery
Wow. Everyone you know has broken down while covered by RAC and all of them have been disappointed? Definitely won’t be taking this offer up, then.

I don’t mind the phrasing to be honest; I think the fact it’s in the “Offers” section is enough to show it’s not a Core Monzo offering/product,
And I think given the value of this specific one does seem to be bigger/better than any other (i.e. a genuine good deal vs the basic product, and what you can achieve elsewhere) - it feels “blog post worthy” to me.
I suspect this one has had more negotiation behind it than just “hey can we have a discount code please”.
