Monzo MCP Server

As the title suggests, are there any plans for Monzo to introduce a MCP server, perhaps as a Perk? Any good third party options?

A first party, read only MCP for Monzo would be great to give AI models the context to provide all sorts of useful financial insight.

I can’t see Monzo introducing anything official, simply because of the complexity and potential security implications etc. There are plenty on GitHub though if you want to set one up for your own use: Repository search results · GitHub

Yeah, but a first party, opt in, read only perk would be valuable and useful.

Never going to happen.

I’m not sure an MCP is really needed since there’s an API available. You can ask your LLM to write a skill to access the API whenever you need data.

Sure an MCP would make the barrier to entry slightly lower, and I actually don’t think that’s a bad idea overall for Monzo to consider as a premium feature, but for now there’s a more than suitable workaround.

That’s what I’ve done with mine. I’ve built an application that pulls in all my finances using the Monzo API. Plus loans and investments and things from other places too.

Within it I’ve got an AI model trained on all my finances with different personas to choose from. Brutal truth, inspiring coach, strategist, or frugal mentor.

So I can chat to it to understand my money even more

After posting that screenshot of my Coach, I realised how bad it looks :grimacing: Too much stuff fighting for your attention. So I’ve cleaned it all up

If anyone is wondering how it knows what I’ve bought on Amazon and Ebay, which is one of the suggested questions…

It knows what I’ve purchased on all websites, because it scans my inbox and pulls order confirmation emails to attach ‘receipts’ to all my transactions.

Nice this is really cool and actually a project I’m working on right now too.

I’ve built hubs to help me with my remortgage, to understand my RSUs and to help me with my upcoming performance review. Next is moving more of my finance dashboard out of Google Sheets. At the moment I’m only using the API to sync my Amex and Monzo Pot balances.

It’s amazing what you can do. Mine is growing every week

This week i worked on my own merchant improvement function. It is clever enough now to find the company website and pull their favicon.

For those who don’t have a website, I can add a link to their social media. So, it always remains up to date.

And as a last resort, I can generate an icon in the app by describing what the merchant does.

I’ve then built a dashboard where it will flag missing logos, poorly named merchants, uncategorised and so on. I get rewarded with XP for cleaning them up.

It then does a better job than Monzo at remembering and updating all past and present :zipper_mouth_face:

Interesting - a self-score system or something else?

I gamified the whole app. Sticking to budgets, categorising my spend, cutting back on non-essentials.

All the way down to how i portion my leftover money at the end of the month. i.e. how much i split across treating myself, saving/investing, or making over payments on debts.

I get XP, badges, and ranking up statuses
