Monzo Max Opportunity to upgrade existing Perks

Monzo Max Opportunity to upgrade existing perks

Monzo Max provides additional insurance to perk account. Could max holders have an added premium version compared to the perks holders? For example, Greggs could provide the option of bakes rather than only rolls, desserts and drinks. And for delivery you could also have Deliveroo silver/gold on top of Uber One. And Cineworld/Odeon on top of Vue. So just an added premium perk to the existing ones. Or 0.5% higher savings

Monzo want to make money not waste money  too much choice causes too much work. The options given keep it simple.

I am not sure it’s wasting money as many people may move to Max if the right perks are provided. It is safe to say that all perks will not be anyway used. Again this is hypothetical as I don’t have stats.

With the current perks, as a Max user it may be easy for me to move away but if you have a stronger offering, you increase loyalty

So you want Deliveroo and Uber One, Odeon and Vue, a bake and/or coffee?

Monzo explored pick N’ mix style options in the past and from their testing, it wasn’t what consumers wanted. They found keeping it simple was the best approach.

I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, just that their research said otherwise unfortunately.

Those were ideas - just to have an upgraded version of the actual perks

Revolut does that across their offerings so have more features of Finacial Times, WeWork, ClassPass and even better saving rates as you upgrade through their tiers. I thought it would have been nice to have something like that

Don’t think they do, they may offer more overall general perks to choose from but no overlapping one like you’ve asked for e.g. giving a choice of Uber Eats and/or Deliveroo for example

So for example

Finacial Times standard to premium

NordVPN standard to plus to complete

Classpass 10 classes to 20

You generally see them from premium to Ultra tiers. There are a few more as well.

Completely agree that’s not the same of having two delivery apps but I was just thinking how to provide an upgraded version of the existing perks

Ah so you mean better perks dependent on the plan so Extra with fewer choices, Perks in the middle and Max with the most, gotcha. Yeah that’s fair, although I’m sure you can understand the much bigger bargaining chip Revolut has with multiple times more customers making striking deals with these business a lot more lucrative for both sides. Maybe as Monzo grows it’s customer base they’ll be able to strike similar deals.

Also Revolut’s subscription revenue reached $541 million in 2024 (up 74%), far exceeding Monzo’s £75 million. Revoluts margins also help with this where Monzo’s are much tighter hamstringing them on being able to use it on better perks without effecting other choices

That’s not to say Monzo can’t afford flashier perks per say, Monzo can afford perks within its strategy but chooses more modest UK focused ones in line with the market they’re serving, like Greggs, Railcards, Uber One, and cinema tickets vs Revolut’s more global premium subscriptions.

Not sure Deliveroo Plus is an upgrade for Uber One based on previous comments.

Odeon is an upgrade to a Vue though imo.

All these options are highly subjective. I don’t have a car, so cinema for me is where I can travel to. That rules out Odeon. Cineworld is naff compared to the spaciousness of Vue. So win win for me.

Uber One or Deliveroo or even JustEat. Potatoes! They’re all the same pretty much give or take. All I want is my food.

I’d take a Nero over a Greggs, but there isn’t one within everyday walking distance. I’d take Nero over Costa (yet there is a Costa within walking distance).

So meh! I don’t see it happening that they’d get partnerships with all the possible combinations that would please everyone’s different tastes or circumstances.

I wonder what the logic was to choose the merchants they did.

Greggs - best deal or most common availability?

Vue - noticed more customers purchased Vue tickets opposed to any other cinema?

It’d say that it’s simply that these are the companies that were willing and able to do business with Monzo.

And likely companies that would mutually benefit from it

I’m not going searching, but I think it was mentioned that there had been data analysis (also tbh it would be utterly bizarre if they hadn’t given the amount of transactional data in Monzo’s hands).

But also yes, probably an element of these companies wanting to do business and the price was right for Monzo to agree.

I’m sure there has been some data analysis but as you say, it’ll also be bound by who wants to work with them. I could see that Odeon, for example, wouldn’t want to eat into their Limitless revenue stream.
