Monzo Labs: Connected Credit Cards

Linked up my credit cards (and died a little inside)

Some feature requests (that aren’t related to the data feed, as I know you guys are limited on what the feed provides):

  • Clicking on the card to see a history of related transactions (the repayments from the Monzo card)
  • Linking the bank transfer payment details to the card, so repayments etc. can be done via clicking the card.

@Mogolent hey sorry you’re having trouble with this. This is an error on the TrueLayer side, it is a bug they’re investigating at the moment.

These issues will go away once we move to open banking API connections, they’re a symptom of the slightly flaky approach of screen scraping.

If you DM me your Monzo account’s email address I can point TrueLayer to your account in case it helps them investigate and fix the bug.

Right now we’re designing some in-product communication to let people know that this can sometimes happen. In most cases it connects itself the next time we sync your accounts.

Both of these are in progress, and working at a very basic level.

Both need some more work before we can release them, but so far are looking doable!

Really like the addition, makes checking my balance(s) on my Halifax credit cards very easy.

Will the ability to pay the credit card off, directly via Monzo by clicking on the displayed credit cards become available?

Will there be any further cards included - I note about 10 or so currently - no Tesco Credit Card option; isn’t this part of the RBS network??

What about spending info included within your feed so that it can be captured as part of your monthly budget and correctly allocated within a spending category?

Thanks
Martin

The ability to connect isn’t based on the bank that powers a credit card, but by how you sign in to your online banking - if it’s a different website, it needs a different connection flow.

We’re working on transactions at the moment, but it’ll start basic, and will be separate from your main feed and budgeting - from talking to people it sounds like everyone has a different expectation for how integrated external transactions should be, so we’re starting by keeping things separate, rather than mushing everything together by default.

Used to be but hasn’t been for years now! I was part of the transfer from RBS to Tesco Bank!

Are we any closer to Amex integration?

Sigh. Literally if you read two posts up there’s a further comment about this. Still the same as always - September.

I did spot that post but it lacked the keyword Amex :upside_down_face:

Are we any closer to getting Amex though??!

No :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: (or yes in the sense that we can assume it’s in the future somewhere so we must be getting closer just because time continues to tick past)

Don’t worry. By that point, Amex will have withdrawn from Europe entirely, as consumer legislation eats into their juicy profits…

Such a shame.

Why can i not see add a credit card on my accounts page

Hey Aaron - the feature isn’t yet available for everyone. If you search the help section in-app, there’s an article with a link to the connection flow.

Out of curiosity, Amex’s developer website seems to present their open banking API as complete, with a form to request access to it:

https://developer.americanexpress.com/products/account-financials-psd2/overview#obGetAccess

Is that just a shell/specification and not functional yet?
