Monzo Labs: Connected Credit Cards

Which bank are you trying to connect to?

Just to set expectations around support for other credit cards - until all credit card providers start providing Open Banking APIs (due May-Sep), this’ll probably be the list of the banks we support as we’ve now enabled all the credit card providers TrueLayer supports currently.

We could potentially use a second aggregation service to connect to Virgin, MBNA, etc - but when everyone is due to provide APIs soon, it might be better for us to wait - rather than building more connections that’ll only get replaced. No aggregators support Tandem, so there isn’t a quick fix there either.

This might change of course, but there isn’t a quick/easy way to add other banks past this point - we’d like to get feedback on added functionality (like making payments, viewing transactions, or connecting to current accounts) first.

Fair enough. Good to know, even if sad.

I was trying with Nationwide. I think it was the initial volume of traffic as it settled down and connected. Only to tell me that my login info was incorrect (it wasn’t). I’ll try and later once I’ve logged on to the website just in case…

An edge case for you: I was surprised not to see Bank of Scotland in the list as it is the same platform as Halifax. I have credit cards with both (long story) and you can see both cards in both the Halifax and BoS apps (which are the same thing reskinned, anyway).

So, I add Halifax (works well) and after a bit of whirring, I can now see the BoS and the Halifax card - but both with the Halifax logo. It might be impossible to do anything about, but thought I’d mention it.

Is it worth me pestering my credit card provider ( Bank of Ireland (UK) plc t/a Post Office Money) to get a move on with Open Banking?

This is interesting! Can you normally see your Bank of Scotland card either via the Halifax online banking website or through their app?

Yes! It’s basically one bank with two skins. You can see all accounts from both in both apps. Login details are identical, too, I think…

Interestingly, Emma (the app) has them both with the Halifax logo, too. But it picks up the different card names, so I can tell them apart.

Jami’s response is probably the most realistic - there’s a need to be compliant by September, so most aggregators/providers are going to be waiting with what they have until then as doing the work now might mean it needs to be repeated or changed in September. Sorry :frowning:

Ah right you did mention it in your original post too - duh! I’ll take a look to see if we can differentiate between BoS and Halifax cards at all. It might be interesting to see what happens if you try logging into your BoS account through the ‘Halifax’ link anyway…

I suppose we were wondering if you were ahead on the API business - and if you fancied an early pilot with Monzo :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

(Disclaimer: I don’t currently have a Tandem account, but might be tempted for that!)

Sorry if this has been mentioned recently but what is the current status of the Amex integration. It seemed to be the first choice and then I read somewhere that Amex’s API wont be ready till September?? Although Emma and other apps seem to use it without a hitch. Any update would be greatly appreciated.

This is where the problems started, actually. As I understood it (thought I might have been wrong) Amex kept changing things which meant that TrueLayer (the provider that Monzo uses) wasn’t working properly.

I think faced with the challenge of the time and cost of starting over with a new provider, or just waiting for native APIs, Monzo chose the latter.

Edit: to add that Emma went to another provider to fix it.

The final PSD2 compliance deadline is 14 September 2019  guess I will wait until then for VM and Tesco

Mine seems to freeze first time I Auth with true layer. It never redirects back to Monzo.

Had this happen with 2 different cards now.

If I go through it a second time it works perfectly.

If y’all are working on an API though, and want some help testing, let us know! :hot_coral_heart:

For some reason it’s only giving me Barclaycard as an option. I’ve got a Nationwide credit card.
