🇺🇸 Monzo in the USA [Wiki]

What is the best way to find free ATMs that don’t require me to be a member of a particular network?

I got them at a manned desk. But these are the paper SEPTA passes (e.g. independence pass, convenience pass).

ah that makes sense, they no longer do paper passes, everything’s been moved to the key card

(however, you can still get a paper weekly or monthly if you have a special employer, or if you are not eligible to use septa key or mastercard under their terms of service or cardholder agreement )

Use the MasterCard ATM locator site, tick the “No Access Fee” box. I compared the results from that with the locations of what I know are totally free ATMs (that haven’t charged me an additional fee whether I use an American, Canadian, or Chinese card) in a town I semi-frequently visit in Washington state and they match. Be prepared to really have to go out of your way to find one, though, or be prepared to not have any options depending on where in the country you are (I put in an address in Manhattan, NYC- nothing within 25 miles so basically if you’re visiting NYC, you’re going to have to pay).

I tried that yesterday. Found nothing within 50mi

I have a question
Going to Las Vegas in a few days. I have a Monzo debit card and a Barclaycard Rewards card, both 0% foreign transaction fee.
I’m tempted to use the credit card for the extra protections and higher limit in case of emergencies. It also has free cash withdrawal abroad. But is there anything I should know?
Do places charge extra to accept credit card in the USA? Or Vegas specifically?

I was there in January and off the top of my head, I don’t remember any places along the strip charging extra to accept cards, but I think there were some restaurants off the strip that either didn’t take cards at all or charged 3%. Keep this in mind before you decide where to eat.

The main thing to keep in mind about Vegas if you need cash is DON’T use ATMs in the casinos if you can help it. They charge $6 or so per withdrawal. Bank or credit union ATMs off the strip or in drugstores will charge the standard $2-3. US account holders can use ATMs in 7-Eleven stores for free, but I’m not sure if this extends to UK users. Give it a try and see if it prompts you for a fee.

Couple other things about Vegas in general that you may or may not already know:

Use the credit card for your hotel. Depending on the hotel the security deposit taken can be quite high. Better for that to be on a credit card and not your own money. The same applies to car hire, if you’re doing that.

If you like Starbucks, the rewards ecosystem has been split off. A UK Starbucks card used in the US will function for payment, but you won’t earn any Starbucks rewards for purchases made in the US, and you can’t redeem UK rewards in the US.

If you’re not doing car hire and you plan to take public transit around the area, download the RideRTC app and purchase a “residential” pass. You’re technically required to show a local driver’s license or state ID if you use a residential pass for the Strip buses but I don’t know of any cases where this is actually checked.

If you have more specific questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you so much, some great tips here!
Sounds like I’m pretty safe to use my card then mostly, and try and find a 7/11 to withdraw cash.
