Currency

Brunei uses the Brunei Dollar (B$, BND). It is interchangeable with the Singapore Dollar 1:1, and Singapore Dollar cash is also generally accepted.

Card usage

I used Chip and PIN and Contactless without any issues wherever I saw the MasterCard logo. It would be wise to carry cash, as card isn’t accepted everywhere.

ATMs

ATM’s worked whenever I tried them - I used a few branches of Baiduri Bank in Bandar Seri Begawan. Magstripe was enabled on my card already, and I didn’t try it without. The ATM’s I used charged a surcharge of I think around B$2 for an overseas card, but there was no additional charges from Monzo provided of course you’re under the £200 limit.

Payment and withdrawal limits

All Monzo cards have some payment and withdrawal limits. To check yours before you leave, tap “Account” under the picture of your card and then “Spending and card limits”.
