Meet the next generation: Monzo for Under 16s 🎉

Same situation here. Please find a way to do this Monzo!

You can add it to Apple Pay if the child is older than thirteen. Not sure about Google though, I’d assume it’s the same.

Really happy to sign up my two for child accounts. Ages 6 and 8 so a great product for them to manage their pocket money!

They don’t need apply pay or to transfer money, so thats all good. I guess if they were older those things would be more important.

But here are two features which these accounts should have to reflect what parents want:

  • Both parents/guardians should be able to see/control the children’s accounts

  • They should be able to open an interest earning pot

I know there might be technical difficulties with the first since the account is legally in the name of one of the parents, but Monzo manage to do the joint accounts so there must be a way! Having a sort of joint account wrapper which is actually the childs account.

Please make this happen Monzo - it will make the product so much better!

Yeah, it’s the same.

I’d replace the word ‘No’ with ‘Possibly-accidental-access-to-Salary-sorting-funds-to-a-child-account-from-a-joint-account-user-without-a-linked-child-account-to-the-child-account-linked-to-the-other-joint-account-user.’

Simple really.

Do you get interest on the Starling one? Really, the kites we have see the interest paid into the parents account and not the kids.

The amount in all your spaces (excluding fixed savers) contributes to the 3.25% interest on up to £5,000.

From SB website: “Earn 3.25% AER* / 3.19% Gross* (variable) interest on balances up to £5,000 for personal and joint accounts. You will earn interest on the money in your main balance together with any money in Spaces, including Connected card and Kite. Interest is calculated daily and paid monthly. This rate does not apply to the Fixed Saver, which is a savings product with its own rate.”

SB website: Saving Spaces: Organise your finances - Starling Bank

So ye, because it’s still your money, you get the interest on the account.

Hope this helps

I have set up my kids with their own accounts which is great they love their cards. The problem is my wife cant see the balance or their spending nor can she add funds for them. It all comes through me. It would be great if we could have multiple parents for the kids!

When I put my child’s information, it pops up like this and the screen doesn’t turn over. What should I do?

Try again tonight or tomorrow?

I tried it yesterday, but it didn’t work.

Usually when weird things like this happen the below steps resolve it.

  • Delete the app
  • Restart your phone
  • Reinstall the app

Perhaps give that a try :crossed_fingers:

I have been given this same step by Monzo support several times over the last 2 years. it fixes some of the app issues. Shame there isnt a function on the iPhone to “repair” an app, rather than delete.

On iPhone if you go settings, apps, Monzo, and the bottom reset session it’ll set it as new.

Unless I am mistaken, this only logs you out - it doesnt actually “repair” the app.

I’m sure it’s fixed something in the past for me.

So far really like the new offering and would love to come back to Monzo (started using Starling just for kite) but we really need both parents to be able to manage the under 16s accounts. How far off is this?
