Meet the next generation: Monzo for Under 16s 🎉

What a roller coaster. But I think even standing outside monzo HQ with a giant box of doughnuts bribing every developer who walks past isn’t going to make that happen*

Monzo have clearly built what they think is a good difference to what exists currently. Can see why it might not the one for every parent or carer.

You lost my son’s interest when he realised he can’t use it with Apple Pay until he’s 13. His HSBC kids card lets him.
So the neon blue card has gone in a drawer.

So much facepalm in this topic :see_no_evil:

All these folks signing up not reading what they’re signing up for.

Yes, it does appear that Apple Pay is not allowed for under-13s. His other card has been added to his wallet though so not sure what’s going on with that. It definitely works as he used it in a shop when I’d forgotten my phone.

As you say, not a Monzo issue.

Ironically to teach their children responsibility.

Just thought I’d let everyone know that this worked correctly this morning- scheduled payment to both children’s Monzo “accounts”/cards taken from a JA pot. Yeooo

You may all stand down now.

In fairness, a lot of Monzo’s own messaging pre-public beta didn’t help. There was talk of this being ‘a real account’ etc, which was patently never going to be the case.

But surely the application tells people what the account entails?

Absolutely. Just appreciate that there’s some evidence of water muddying evident in this very thread.

With making it a full account; there shouldn’t be any barriers to adding a second account :eyes: one bills one spending :raised_hands:t3:

But man can dream, along with wanting rid of the coral card :joy: gimme grey already (somehow)

Actually to completely contradict my comment earlier - this morning’s transfer was a partial fail.

Money moved correctly to each card. With the pot icon of the source pot I had selected for “pocket money”. However this does not appear to have generated the required withdrawal from the pot. The payment went through as unusually there was a balance in the main JA (which was why it failed last week obviously now - as everything is squirrelled away into its own pot - as a true Monzo’r).

If the intention is not to use a JA pot then this option needs to be removed when selecting source pots to pay from. If this should be an actionable task then something is failing at the point of the movement of money from the pot to fund the pocket money transfer.

Hope this helps the coding team.

As a parent my kids won’t be getting a smart phone until late teens as they cause too many problems. It surprises me that there are kids under 13 with one.

Yeah it’s going to be a pain with kids asking for a phone but the most they’ll get is a dumb mobile at some point.

I’m not saying that it’s right or wrong, but this fact surprises you?

Doesn’t surprise me at all. If I go to Tesco early in the morning there are loads of young kids glued to their phones.

How do BOTH parents get access to the kids account? My partner set it up from our joint Monzo account and can see kids transactions and pots, etc…, but I cannot?

Have I missed something obvious, or, can only one parent “supervise” the kids account from a Joint Monzo Account app?

This is explained in the main thread.

Only one parent can manage the “Pot” with assigned card for the child.

Yes please sort this out monzo. Both parents should have access.

Absolute fact. Obviously you mean two separate accounts and not a joint account.
