Meet the next generation: Monzo for Under 16s šŸŽ‰

Same lol

Just got my email - ā€œone of the firstā€ it said - came here and loads of people have signed up over a week ago  I signed up the first day I saw the accounts were coming on the waitlist in the app, for anyone who is waiting

Anyway - the process was easy for 2 kidsā€¦ the only questions I have (and Iā€™ll scroll back up through this thread in a minute to see if anybody has the same Qs):

  1. Can I add another parent to their accounts so the U16 accounts show up in 2x Adults Monzo apps? Mother and father?
  2. If not - can we talk about setting up the U16 accounts through the Joint account instead so we both have access?
  3. What happens if the kids lose their cards (or want to pay to get a different colour when theirs has worn out) - canā€™t see an option on the parentā€™s side of the app

Not yet, but it is reportedly an incoming feature (ā€˜Co-Parentā€™ access)

It was mentioned that Joint Account could be linked to the Child account, but that was also a future development. And given that for each Joint Account, there are already 2 people with Personal accounts, it makes more sense to keep the Child account linked to one (or two) Personal accounts - as some parents may not be together but still both need to access the Child account (this coming from one of the loudest Joint Account protagonists on the planet!)

From the help section of the app:

Edit: For clarity, Iā€™ve had a Child account linked to my Personal account since they first launched and Iā€™m watching closely for developments.

Youā€™re a superstar - thank you. Weā€™ve had Starling kids accounts for a while and theyā€™re just on my partnerā€™s phone so I donā€™t get to see spending, nor is it easy for me to add money when needed. Monzoā€™s already more convenient (mostly because I use it as my main account, donā€™t have to sign up to a Starling account just to move money into kids accounts) but the main stumbling block for me at the moment is the lack of co-parent access. The fact itā€™s probably coming soon is great news and weā€™ll move forward with moving from Starling to Monzo ASAP

Also just tried to sign up. Why does the child need an email address? I thought it would just link to my account.?

The magic link is emailed to the child should the child need to login to the app on their device. A magic link is required to get into the app as a layer of initial security.

Signed up and they are in the post. Thanks.

Happy days!!!

Can you link it to joint account? If not then yeah adding another parent should be standard feature

MAYBE is should be a standard feature, but I donā€™t think it really is with any other Kids card.

And, certainly, itā€™s a paid feature on Revolut.

Hello, can we get this to run off joint account like Starling?

Oh cool, didnā€™t know this was a Kite feature.

Can other family member send money directly to the kids account?

No

Are many people still waiting for an invite to join?

I also registered my interest as soon as it was advertised several weeks ago, but havenā€™t heard a thing yet. Just decided to search if there was a timeline for launch and discovered this thread.

Both of my children are itching to start using this - looks fantastic!

Yeah Iā€™m in the same boat, fingers crossed itā€™ll be soon.

I see now most who have access signed up for pre-beta via a google form - I only just joined the forum today, so understand Iā€™ll probably still be waiting a while. Pleased to be here though and look forward to an invite - and participation with future launches. Not sure why I waited so long to join :joy:

Are you able to give us a clue on the launch date. My daughter needs an account and Monzo is my preference over the old school

:soon:
