Introducing new perks on Monzo Perks and Max šŸæšŸ•

There’s an argument that it involves animal cruelty. Its not my argument, but there it is.

Yup, animal cruelty

According to their website all Pepe’s stores are halal but may not be ā€˜HMC certified’.

If we’re being specific, even stunning can be pretty horrific for animals… further reading here: RSPCA - Fact-file // RSPCA Fact-file 2

Best way to avoid animal cruelty, stick to your greens! (the paneer rice box from Pepe’s is still delicious)

It’s going off topic a bit but I don’t get why meat eaters get hung up about halal meat. Factory meat production using other methods is pretty awful. I’ve witnessed a halal slaughter and it was quick. It also happened to be non-industrial scale - we bought a live goat and took it to the butcher who killed, butchered and bagged it for the freezer. Either way, halal or not the animal dies so if you’re a meat eater I think it’s difficult to claim any kind of moral high ground by saying halal is cruel. My opinion, and will also be my last comment on the subject.

Back on topic, in terms of the additional perks, it’s not selling Perks or Max to me any more than previously but I accept that at almost 60 the packages probably are not really aimed at me.

Happy to pay for Extra for the features it gives and I think in terms of functionality and visibility of my money and budgeting Monzo is still way ahead of other banks.

To me, chicken is chicken.

Don’t really care how it’s butchered, makes no difference to me, all tastes the same.

Appreciate others have more moral views.

I’m very comfortable eating meat, but RSPCA, Farm Animal Welfare Council, British vets are all in agreement that it causes unnecessary suffering. People have different moral thresholds, hence why some are vegetarian, some are vegan etc. This just happens to be mine, and I think restaurants should give you the choice.

Agree with @N26throwaway I am vegetarian and can’t stand the thought of an animal suffering for meat. Especially being killed halal way.

Got my first free Greggs donut today after signing up for Perks on Friday. Wasn’t gonna bother but we were passing anyway so I popped in.

Very lucky after realising the offer expires on a Sunday so I’ve got a new freebie from tomorrow :bagel::coffee::pie:

After having a monzo 16-17 account for a while now along with the majority of my friends, we all get really jealous of our newly 18yr old friends that get virtual cards, spending from pots etc… always annoyed us that monzo hasn’t released a modified subscription program for 16-17s as we also could make use of these perks… most of us are earning average wages and have bills to pay too (so we could make use of subscription pots, virtual cards, etc)!

Still love monzo - but I (and others) would definitely not mind paying a bit extra a month to have these perks…

Children can’t enter into a contract for services.

The minimum age is 18 for any form of contract in such manner that requires a financial obligation.

Because you’re still a child. It’s quite simple. There has to be a cut off at some point. 18 is where it is.

You can ride a moped but you can’t finance it.

This is the most wrong you’ve ever been.

I don’t think anyone’s claiming these cut offs are sensible, are they? Most are a result of different people thinking differently about things in years gone by. There’s not much consistency, but it’s just the way things are.

Yet a 16yo is far more likely to injury or kill someone riding it than they are financing it :man_shrugging:

Alas, that’s just the way it is.

It means they can buy more stuff and show-off more buying stuff they can’t really afford

I’m not sure if you’re trolling at this point.

It’s formed under responsible lending, and a child up to the age of 18 isn’t lawfully deemed responsible.

While you may believe you have a sensible head, most will not understand.

Lending is a good thing, it brings us most pleasures we have in life today off the back of lending (IE mortgages, housing, new products and services).

Things happen, and people do default (been there done that), but it’s a very small %, the majority is handled responsibly.

Anyway, law states who can have lending, and that is, unfortunately, adults only.

You could simply ask your parent or guardian to purchase it for you and you give them the money. The product is then covered (if fallen within s75 rules).

Just means they’d need to make the claim as if it was their product.

Going back to Extra/Perks, it wouldn’t be responsible of monzo to enter an agreement with an under 18 customer.

While you’d have free Greggs and virtual cards, is the rest really suitable?

Credit reports aren’t valid until you reach 18.

Under 18s don’t tend to have multiple bank accounts, so open banking may also not be applicable.

The word responsible is applied to both the consumer and the business, it’s not solely based on whether the consumer is responsible.

U18s generally don’t have multiple accounts though, usually the account their parents open for them and they keep it forever
