Introducing Monzo Premium

This isn’t for me.

-I preferred the other coloured card that was shown last year
-I get free phone insurance already without paying a £15 a month
-Can’t access lounges as I don’t travel and if I did travel corona virus makes the insurance now really worth it for now as they’re restricting traveling and stopping you from going places
-The shop benefits are still poor

I’m gonna stick with just the plus the only new thing is a metal card which probably isn’t 100% metal as I heard contactless can’t work on completely solid metal cards

Would pay £10 max

Edit: The health insurance doesn’t cover me due to my medical conditions apparently

As a minor point about the Monzo webpage for Premium; I can’t see a link to the PID sheet online, only the full terms and condition.

I really don’t know what the hype is about for a metal card when most people just use Apple Pay🥴

Also I get my phone insurance for £5 a month through my home ins that’s through a high street bank so I’m saving more money with them as it’s £64 annually through my policy.

Travel insurance doesn’t do anything for me as I hardly travel  plus the current climate we’re in… I understand everyone is different though.

The offers are just the same - pointless I’m afraid.

All in all It’s a nice looking card but that’s really all you’re paying for in my eyes, once the hype is over with & the 6 month minimum term, people will cancel. Sorry I know this is a negative post but I can’t find anything positive with it, each to their own though! Hope whoever gets it enjoys it :slightly_smiling_face:

Can I ask why out of interest? Just wondering as I currently have this account too (does nationwide offer more?), as soon as this becomes available for Joint Accounts I’d probably make the move!

No you’ve released everything Monzo, time to work on those offers as they’ve been stagnant for months. Overall i’m happy with the premium product as I was looking for phone insurance. Everything else is an added bonus

I like the idea of a metal card but totally useless for me… I’m buying my new iPhone on Apple upgrade plan which includes Apple Care+ and I won’t be travelling anytime soon, and if I was travelling, since you’re not covered for Corona virus the insurance is slightly pointless.

This is really great! I’ve had packaged accounts for probably the last 10 years and the apple repair was always a sticking point for me! being able to repair directly in an apple store and claim back is great, not all insurers offer this.

I’ll be honest, this is a better package than I expected Monzo to release. That said, FlexPlus is a much better option for most as the mobile phone insurance covers all phones in the household.

If someone is “full Monzo” and really wants a metal card, this isn’t a bad deal. I do wish companies would stop advertising things as “free” though, when they aren’t. The “5 free cash deposits” aren’t free, you’re paying for them in your monthly fee.

Here’s a video of the metal card for those interested.

Im also in the same predicament, £13 also gets me family cover for phone cover… need’s a little more to get me to switch over tbh.

How else is it supposed to be worded? It’s normally a paid option with free account holders.

Also by way of comparison, here’s Monzo vs Nationwide’s travel insurance cover:

Monzo Nationwide
Cancellation / Curtailment £5,000 £5,000
Delay / Missed Departure £250 £250 - £1000 depending on location
Baggage Delay £300 / £700 -
Loss of Baggage/Money/Docs £750/£250/£300 £1500/£500/£750
Emergency Medical Expenses £10,000,000 £10,000,000
Personal Liability £1,000,000 £2,000,000
Personal Accident Cover £30,000 £25,000
Car Hire Excess £3,000 n/a
Legal Costs £25,000 £50,000
UK Based Trips Covered, if >100km from home, AND prebooked 2 nights at a “Registered provider”. 2 nights stay at a commercially operated premises
Excess £50, where charged £50, where charged
Age Up to 70 years Up to 70 years
Trip Length 45 days 31 days
Cover Location Worldwide Worldwide
Winter Sports Included Included
Extreme Sports Not included Not Included, Add on can be bought

By way of a super quick commentary - the big important stuff is pretty much equal - Medical expenses, etc.

There’s some little differences in the value of personal belongings covered, legal costs, and some missed departure type terms that are better in Flex.

Monzo has better Trip Length, covers a car hire excess, and has baggage delay.

One consideration would be if you’re likely to do any extreme sports, which aren’t covered, and an add on cannot be bought.

I think this is great! I’ve seen a lot of people asking for insurance and for the metal card and it’s been delivered. As someone who has always had a ‘packaged account’ I think the price is pretty good for what you get and there are some aspects of the mobile phone insurance that I have not been covered for in the past with other providers (cracked screen being a huge one!) Also, being able to take your apple phone straight to apple for a repair and claim back is ideal (again sometimes this isn’t offered and instead you can be provided with dodgy second hand replacement models).

Travel insurance, whilst we might not use it in the current climate, is something I always want included with my account as its great to know it’s there and you don’t need to worry about it before you travel - lets hope we get to use this soon  plus £600 withdrawal is a huge improvement!!

The metal card is not something I’ve ever been too fussed about but it’s something I’ve seen asked for time again on here and Instagram so it’s nice to see that it’s now available!

I am currently with nationwide using the flex plus as a joint bills account pretty much solely for the insurance aspect - my joint ‘spending’ account is with Monzo so as soon as this becomes available for joint we’ll be switching!

Signed up. I’m a sucker for a metal card…

What I would be interested to see are some genuine hands on photos of the card, rather than the renders in the promos.

Will be looking forward to more hands on shots coming in the next few weeks.

Not surprising you’re here to troll everyone again

As others have said, just remember it doesn’t cover loss or theft of your device, so it’s not a directly comparable product.

For the avoidance of doubt to anyone that skips over other posts and sees this one, this isn’t entirely true, as some things related to Covid are covered - see Monzo’s coronavirus page for the source of truth.

@maxwhite - potential typo on the Covid page:

I have medical expenses to pay because I fell ill with coronavirus while on holiday
Subject to normal terms, you’re covered for emergency medical treatment, quarantine and repatriation if you fall ill with coronavirus or another infectious disease while you’re away. As well as additional accommodation if you fall ill with coronavirus or another infectious disease while you’re away and can return home as planned.

Should the emphasized ‘can’ actually be a ‘cannot’, as it makes no sense to cover ‘additional’ accommodation if you’re returning home as planned?

…but it’s got more cash withdrawals and deposits for those folk that love cash? I’m impressed that you think for an additional £2 (from the £5 you’re already paying) per month, you should receive mobile phone insurance and worldwide travel insurance… That’s £24 a year for two insurance products by your logic?

Sorry Sam, one more follow up here.

Seems to me the Terms & Conditions actually state the opposite regarding taking a phone to Apple.

What You Are Not Covered For -> Unauthorised Repairs
“We want the ability to assess the damage to your mobile phone in order to best decide whether to repair or replace it. If you have it repaired without our opportunity to do this then we may not pay your claim.”

Can we get some more formal clarification on this?
