Include pots in overdraft warning calculation

I have my salary sorted into pots and payments all arranged to come out of those pots.

Every month I get a warning that my payments will take me into my overdraft.

Can Monzo please update it so that the pot balances and the arrangement to take payment out of those pots is taken into account?

Otherwise, the warning is pretty meaningless and likely to be ignored.

My account balance is very rarely more than £10 as I keep most of my money in pots, and I never have this warning despite some payments being over £10.

I would make sure that all of you payments are definitely set to come out of pots, and those pots have enough money to cover the payments.

It’s not meaningless, it’s tell you your account balance doesn’t cover what’s due.

You may need to readjust your budget to avoid this in future.

In my scenario there is enough there to cover the upcoming payments and that money is in pots correctly allocated with all payments also allocated to the pots.

The payments will go out just fine with no overdraft and no issue of pots running dry etc.. my budget is set up well and I will not be going overdrawn in any of the pots or accounts.

And yet… I still get this message.

If I were to actually go overdrawn, I’d be very pleased for this message to forewarn me. As it is, it prompts needless thought and worry.

Can you switch the payments to come out of the pots the money is currently in rather than moving the money yourself? (Assuming I’ve understood your setup correctly)

I’m not moving the money again before payments come out.

I get paid, I sort my salary into pots (using salary sorted,which is great) the direct debits are all set to come from correct pots (using the ‘pay from pot’ function, which is also great. The pots have sufficient money in them to cover the paents due out for the entire month… There should be no issue and, I think, no notification about going overdrawn - because it won’t happen.

It’s as though Monzo look at my total bills on direct debit and say “oh, there’s not enough money because it’s all in pots” even though the direct debits are linked to the correctly assigned and funded funded pots.

I’m a new user to Monzo (since March 2026) and love the pot and associated virtual card features.

However, the issues of:

  1. no running balances and

  2. pot transfers not being included in daily balance calculations

are very off-putting as these seem to be the oversight of basic banking functions.

These seem to be longstanding issues with no resolution. Does Monzo ever look at these threads and take action to make improvements? If not, I may have to consider my choice of moving my regular finances to Monzo.

Sometimes the feedback is taken on board. A running balance would be too much trouble because Monzo shows you EVERY action on your account including pre autos and then second presentments and it would need to adjust the running balance too often.

Most other banks don’t show auths and second presentments in such ways.

Pot to Pot transfers can be included if you change the category from Transfers/Savings to something else.
