As I’ve traveled more, I’ve bumped into more than a few instances where I’ve attempted to split bills or send/receive money from a fellow Monzo user only to bump into the Atlantic as a virtual barrier to instant transfers. The problem is that the way this manifests in the app now is that we simply can’t see each other in the “pay” or “request” page. This looks like a technical error at first, and I think for users who don’t know US/UK Monzo transfers don’t work (at least not like that) it might be a good idea to instead show the contact with the other country’s flag and grayed out, which could be tapped to bring up a little message saying that US/UK transfers aren’t supported yet, to remove any ambiguity about it possibly just being a technical bug. For bonus points maybe bring up a prompt to open Wise to complete the transfer.
Ideally I’d hope that transfers could become possible the same way they are in Revolut, where UK/US is basically the same as UK domestic but with a prompt for “reason for transfer” as the only extra step, but for now this would at least let people know “hey, we know what you’re trying to do, we’re just not set up for it yet” instead of leaving both parties confused.
