Probably card level being Business, higher fees.
Credit Card BIN or IIN Lookup appears to show the results correctly as a debit card allocated to iFast
From you link, my BIN is credit
Edit: when I add the next two characters to make 8 it becomes debit by iFast
Mine comes out as a UK debit card too.
There is a note on that website to say BINs are 8 digits from 2022.
Sounds like lufthansa haven’t updated their database then.
It’s no big deal, it’s just 1% difference between Amex cashback and iFast cashback.
HSBC ATM warned but iFast as expected did not charge for cash withdrawal.
I am beginning to think iFast has one chat support agent called Tan.
It is always this person you have to wait for in queue.
Also if you start a chat and happen to leave the chat window or app, you will have to start afresh.
While it’s not awful I’ve not really seen anything to convince me to stick with iFast after the promotion is up. It didn’t seem too competitive.
I like the app design and the multi-currency concept, it’s definitely something lacking from pretty much all UK banks but something that you do get very frequently in other countries.
However, I found this main attraction is also its weak point, as its GBP/EUR exchange rate is appalling compared to Monzo, Revolut etc.
Received an email from them earlier this week reminding me about the debit card. And that the 2% cashback offer ends of this month.
I had fallen out of habit of using the card, mainly because of the lack of Apple Pay.
I did notice though they now have a toggle in the app to turn off email notifications for purchases! Hurray!
They have had this for months in the Android app. Unfortunately, you can’t actually toggle the toggle..
Opening the account coincided with some extra spending I had to do anyway, like car service and repairs, so I have had nearly £50 cashback so far from them, a very good deal for a couple of months. Planning to pay off a rental car abroad end of this month to use the rest of the cashback. If only it lasted through the holidays!
It’s a new tab under “Manage Card” called Purchase Email Notifications you can now toggle it off (if you don’t want to receive email notification after each card purchase), and it works for me
Not that I’ll likely be using the card in a week but thanks!
@tiredt How did you transfer EUR (without fx conversion to/from GBP) from Wise to iFast without [SWIFT] transfer fee ? I’m trying to do what you did and Wise wants to charge me 5.76 EUR for the transfer.
I have an EUR balance on Wise. So I saved the EUR details from iFast and sent from that balance.
Conversion had already be done when converting GBP to EUR. Wise has never charged me transaction fees to send EUR to EUR.
@tiredt That’s exactly what I have tried to do. I have a balance in EUR in my Wise. I input in Wise my account’s IBAN given by iFast (which starts with GB80xxx). Wise warns that the EUR transfer will be via SWIFT as iFast does not participate in SEPA, then says it will charge me 5.76 EUR (looks like a fixed fee) which doesn’t seem illogical for me since SWIFT always costs something. No conversion to/from GBP anywhere.
So I was wondering how you managed to do the transfer without any fee.
The idea is I’m going to be in the EU for a few days and was thinking of spending on the iFast debit card (instead of the Wise dc) to get the 2% cashback, but only if I can top up the iFast EUR account without friction.
I had this too. Cancelled and tried again and it worked like normal.
I have tried again and yes I see that fee now and can’t let me send even when I try again.
I have tried to send to a friend in Germany and no fees.
I guess it is an iFast issue.
How about leaving the funds in iFast as GBP and let them use the Visa rate at time of transaction when you make EUR purchases?
Thanks for checking.
That could be because your german friend’s account is SEPA-enabled (assuming you’re sending from Wise who is also SEPA-enabled)
I do not wish to exchange GBP into EUR. I already have EUR in my Wise ready to be spent. Then I remembered that iFast now offers 2% cashback on foreign spend, so thought I would transfer EUR from my Wise to my iFast and spend from iFast instead. But if I can not easily transfer without the fee, I might as well just spend my EUR directly from my Wise dc and not bother with iFast.
