Give us a shout in-app and we’ll take a look at this for you
It might be that the ATM’s have been saying something to the effect of “your card issuer may charge you for this transaction”, but we’d never impose a charge for UK ATM withdrawals. Some ATM’s will show this message because they mistakenly assume that all Mastercard cards are credit cards (which typically charge a fee for cash withdrawals), even though Debit Mastercard is becoming much more common
No CASS (lots of things to move over) - I know this is coming later this year;
No joint accounts;
No Apple Pay.
I need a personal account, and also a joint account for me and my partner to manage together. I also pay with Apple Pay several times a day. Until Monzo can match these bank features, it will sadly remain a top-up account for incidental spending for me/us.
I’ve got a ‘household’ account for all bills (Santander 123) as our Mortgage is with them so even with the fee, I’m getting c.£15 cash back a month - so the lack of switching service doesn’t bother me.
I really need a good savings tool, I like Starlings Goals better than pots (soz) and I will really miss the linked 5% savers with both Santander and FD. If I moved entirely to Monzo I would have to shuffle money around as the FD account requires £1000+ a month to stay fee free. More hassle, when moving to Monzo is supposed to mean less hassle.
Oh, and, obviously, Apple Pay - Grrrrrrrr.
It stresses me out having my lovely Monzo app sat unloved with £3 in it - I want to use it so bad but at the moment having FD as my primary personal account and topping up Starling once a month is the cleanest way for me to operate…
Hi Peter, sorry haven’t been on my account for a while. I use a Club Lloyds Account. Interest is 2% now up too 5k. My regular saver at 3% just finished. My new one is 2.5% for £400 savings per month and I opened another one at 2% at £250 a month so this is maximum I can set with them. Appart from that I have a Hampshire Trust 3 month notice period account that gives me 1.65% although didn’t open at that amount, they put it up to that as soon as BOE put up interest rates. I don’t think it’s open to new savers and I wasn’t really happy about them doing a credit check to open a savings account or that I had to write too get them to update my address when I moved. I can’t really match it though without a longer notice period, or opening various other current accounts.
I’m in a similar position. I use my Monzo account as my weekly spending account where it helps me keep tight control. My income - pensions in my case - go into my legacy account from which all my direct debits etc get drawn from. Were I to move these to my Monzo account then the simple at-a-glance monitoring of my weekly spend would be impossible because all the direct debit transactions would obscure them. I’d need the ability to pay direct debits directly from a separate Pot.
I’m holding back because of the following
Monzo has no CASS facility
No joint account
No savings interest incentive
No Apple Pay
I have just moved from Starling to NatWest. Absolutely smooth, V quick and NO issues. That on top of the CASS assurances provided by the switching service.
Monzo is behind here. If they could provide the same service I’m sure that many more will join
I really really really want to move over to Monzo as my only current account. I love Monzo despite the small problems that I occasionally face.
However, I have some problems that I can’t overcome:
Can’t accept cheques - I’m aware that these are going the way of the dinosaur, but I’m getting married soon and cheques are a very common gift… I have to keep my legacy current account to cash them.
Daily transfer limit - I’ve only made a handful of transfers in my life over the £10,000 limit, and I have one more lined up in a few months. While I accept that it is very rare to have to break these limits, the fact that I cannot pay for my wedding venue or put down a deposit on a house means I can never really migrate.
No joint accounts - as a household with joint finances, separate accounts are really inconvenient for sharing expenses.
So… really the reason I can’t move to Monzo is because I’m getting married and married/pre-wedding life is not compatible with Monzo.
I was under the impression that if I wanted to buy a car or put down a hefty deposit it was just simply a phone call to the customer service team and away we go
I’m sure that’s all it is, but doesn’t that feel like a step backwards from the legacy system where you just… do it online? I like Monzo because I never have to deal with sending things in the post or on the phone!
Yes, that is nice. It’s definitely an improvement.
I think that once my wedding is done I likely won’t ever be making any £10,000+ purchases or accepting cheques for anything, so those won’t be limiting factors for me any more.
However, lack of joint accounts is a dealbreaker (and appears to be a very common complaint in this thread). Ideally I would love to have everything in Monzo but I guess join accounts become difficult given the mobile app model. Perhaps… joint pots? I have no idea how it would be implemented.
