Free ATM withdrawals aren’t really a thing in Spain - unless you have a card belonging to the bank you are withdrawing from.
The only general exception to this that I am aware of is Unicaja Bank machines - they are very persistent with DCC, but if you can fight your way past that you can get ‘free’ money. Clearly an account denominated in EUR shouldn’t have to go through this step.
The only other alternative for free cash that I know about is that certain Santander accounts allow free withdrawals from Santander machines in Spain.
You can check the exchange rates and see which one gives you the most Euros. Unless you want it to be easy and just use GMA and whatever rate they offer you.
Yes, that’s right. It’ll detect the EUR and take from there. One thing to be mindful of is if there’s not enough EUR but there is sufficient GBP it’ll take from there instead.

Most large towns have one, villages less so. Unicaja should be free with. Santander debit card (it is for Monzo).
They all seem to do free withdrawals now, including from the free account. However, the free account is only free in Santander machines and will charge you to convert to EUR if used elsewhere.
I have even seen a new notification I’ve not had before. Yesterday my HSBC app (Android) gave me a pop up notification that the contactless transaction I’d just attempted had been declined as I’d exceeded my contactless limit and it required me to use the PIN on my next attempt.
I’ve never noticed it before and wanted to check something. I have the insurance PDF emailed to me and am eligible under both income and holdings, but the insurance section doesn’t work for me. If I’ve been demoted she can’t even look me in the face and tell me I’m not wanted.
I’ve been a Premier customer for over a year and it’s saying the same when I go into Premier Travel Insurance. Probably a bug because I still have all the other Premier services.
Also, I just went into the in-app chat and it said “Good morning, welcome to your HSBC Premier chat”
That’s reassuring as I’ve always just assumed the insurance activated upon opening and I’ve been on four trips since then!
The cards
The travel insurance
The slightly better premier savings.
I’m not really sure there are any other “perks” at least as I know. I believe at one point, premier and advanced customers got a dedicated help line and premier manager but I think there’s too many people to have that now.
This has been around for a while. The strange thing is you’ll get this but not for other non transaction related things such as in app approval etc.
Only took two working days but my US HSBC Premier checking account is now open. Annoyingly, I have to call to get a debit card ordered (toll free number though). Glad to have another (real) bank where to park my USD.
Yes but that drops down if you withdraw whereas the premier saver stays at 3.2% which is handy as a “slush fund” for savings that haven’t been put into investments or fixed ones.
