If you’re not British, it’ll cost you over £1300. My OH is Australian and we haven’t bothered as it’s fine with Settled Status.

I think UK passport is very good one to have

Including that you live in HK and have a HKID among others

Exactly, it’s clear which facilities are for residents only

Just an update…in HSBC HK online banking I managed to link my accounts, and they are both neatly showing in HSBC UK app as well. Only problem for me is I cannot set up global view in HSBC UK online banking since I am not a premier customer. Will be interesting to see if I can make instant transfer using the app and whether they can go straight into the GBP deposit account or not

It says this service is only available to Premier or Advance customers (after logging in)

Yes I noticed that the other way round. However it’s secret weapon is the instant transfers into the account of your choosing

Nope. Completely fee free

Yes which is why it’s frustrating I can’t access it :joy:

I think some reactions in this thread are over the top. It’s just an account… it wouldn’t let you open it as easily as so if it was that restrictive

In the same boat, was able to sign up with IE passport

So this morning I logged in to my HSBC UK app and all the HSBC HK accounts were there. In the pay and transfer section I was able to move money directly from my UK Bank Account to the GBP deposit account as if it was any other savings account. Arrived instantly with no fee and no converting of currency for spending on the card!

Just need to link the two profiles from HSBC HK Online Banking and accept the linking agreement.

That’s pretty awesome

If I have money in HK GBP savings, and spend with my card, it will come from there with no conversion?

We will have to test when the cards arrive but that’s the idea, yes. Similarly that can apply to every currency that is available which is 12 others in total I think. Plus the 0.4% cashback. Will have to see how that gets credited.

Haha yes that’s certainly one way to utilise it! The accounts are your oyster, do as you please with them!

Haha what account is?

Haha I’m not sure how much I want to venture out with HSBC account openings :joy: HK is enough for me. But keep us posted!

I can’t wait for the eventual cry’s of “they’ve shut all my accounts” that’s inevitably going to happen.

“I have CIFAS”

How could you end up with a CAT6/7 from this? I think everyone put planning to save or invest in HK, which is true for me, I doubt anyone lied on the application and even then would HSBC HK even be able to add it to your file? They didn’t check mine at any CRAs when I applied

Edit: the Australian one says you have to be a resident?
