I was messing, I don’t think they can.
I’ve been stopped becuase I dont have a Aussie Address. How did you do it?
DM you. Actually can you DM me instead xD
Part of me is thinking opening an account designed to be available before you move to Australia, with no intent to move to Australia, comes under fraud.
If you did this; and are part of HSBC group including UK, they could close all your accounts, first direct included.
Leaving this one alone.
I’d imagine that’s what they mean by “a valid reason for opening the account”.
Nobody here has a valid reason from what I can see. So I think it falls foul of their policy.
It’s fun watching the kiddies play, though ![]()
As someone who visits Australia nearly 6 times a year and has my whole family over their I think i’m alright
But you’re visiting, not resident, so I don’t think it fits as a tourist account?
You’d have to lie (commit fraud) for the account.
Time to get my Aussie Citizenship then!
Think they’d clock on if you stuck a tenner in it and left it.
Nothing more than a loophole.
Anyone know is HSBC One from Hong Kong is going to be able to add to Apple Pay?
One Website told me Yes and another said No its only HSBC HK Credit Cards that can be added to Apple Pay.
I think fraud is an exaggeration, your right that they will likely blanket close your accounts though… your obviously breaching a policy and the private business has its right to exit you for that
I think the ability to save in AUS, HK (if actually allowed without living or having an intention to move like the above poster said) is something everyone should think about taking advantage of
If you stick a grand in there, your using the account as intended
I’ll just do that then
I’m not sure why it would even be a problem? If HSBC intentionally designed a product and said that you are eligible for that product then they are happy for you to do exactly that
Does the AUS account say you can apply to “Save and Invest” without being a resident like HK?
And, “oh no the multi trillion dollar global bank has to send a plastic card in the post”, really?
I guess so
Any info on cashback/savings interest?
Cashback on the HSBC account is 0.4%. Doesnt seem to be capped or limited at all.
It clearly states you are eligible. What you do with your money and banking is within your rights provided legal. If there was a problem, the application would’ve been declined.
I’m pretty sure I don’t qualify for 2.?
