Or just DM one of us for the link.

Also it seems that HSBC One members get some kind of Insurance.

I think we may have found why they limit ages to 18-64?

That’s interesting, my TSB switch failed as RBS said my account was Unsupported to TSB when I tried to switch.

If it’s via the Old Form then that is why. The Old RBS Form is full of issues

If I selected the option to save/invest in HK then I deposit some money in HKD savings and use the card there is no reason why I cannot have the account. It is part of the same global bank and people are within the right to have an account should they be eligible. I feel as if you are using all their services globally it’s no cause for them to boot you out. If anything they would encourage you to use all their banking facilities. And yeah the card is really useful for spending in multiple currencies and actually the One account allows you to save in various currencies all in one go. Even the advisor on the phone sounded impressed at the HSBC HK offering :joy:

Movement of money, provided legal, is not their business. They care about tax and the only time that could be a potential flag is if you’ve sold a massive investment abroad and made gains, then moved the money into UK. Besides, even then, what is it their business. The only relevance would be capital gains achieved in the UK. Tax evasion is illegal but being tactical with your tax is perfectly legal.

I switched Drummonds to Lloyds with no issues. Switched Monzo into Childs also no issues.

I always lie on my tax return where it asks if you’ve been involved in any tax avoidance schemes. I’m assuming that they don’t want us all to count our ISAs and SIPPs as tax avoidance schemes yet that’s exactly what they are!

I don’t think that’s what they mean by tax avoidance scheme  A government-sanctioned savings account where its tax-free-ness is the whole point of it, isn’t the same as scheme you’ve specifically engaged with to avoid paying tax you would otherwise have been liable for. Would be the same as saying claiming back business expenses against tax is tax avoidance.

Yup, insurance will do It. Interesting on that front that Nationwide have removed the upper age limit on their Flexplus insurance. We’re all getting older. Hopefully they are looking forward to us all becoming immortal

No. Switching out from RBS/childs to TSB

While GMA is very similar I agree, it does not earn interest on deposit balances, nor does the card pay interest. I think just the overall flexibility and the ease of availability. I think she also was impressed because she didn’t know anything about it outside of HSBC UK which she worked for

They have to ask for a statement to see money flowing through right? Or does that get reported aswell

Maybe it wouldn’t cause an issue, I just thought it would definitely look “odd”… I don’t have anything to worry about per say but I know paying my accountant to deal with it would be a nice chunk of change

I don’t think it’s that odd. Look at it this way, imagine you moved to the UK say after living in the US. You would have and maintain US Banks which, provided eligible, would let you use their service. And you’d have your UK accounts. Nothing odd about it. This is just the other way round. Also it’s only odd if your using it to facilitate say money laundering or tax evasion.

True, I guess it depends on what HMRC would see as an irregularity

I guess I won’t be using it that much, I have my AIB accounts for euro spending and tbh I rarely even use that. Just spending from monzo is too superiouly convenient for me

Could be some nice out of mind out of sight savings - anyone know if they earn interest?

All the accounts earn interest but it’s very small like 0.2% :joy:. Mind you £1 is 10HKD so if you save in their currency it might be better? I don’t know

So just to confirm no one here has any use other than novelty like myself :joy:

I’m going to save some money in it each month and spend a bit on the card each month and slowly let it grow and if I ever go to Hong Kong I’ll spend on it there and visit a branch and give my signature specimen :joy: I think the biggest flex is the HSBC card which no one else would really know where it came from. Also it’s quite satisfying because transferring small amounts of money across makes it look like you have a lot more money :joy:

Is it worth getting the UK passport as an EU national ?

(My motivation are absolutely not linked to the passport requirements for Hsbc HK).
