HSBC Chat

Happy New Year,

Installing the app from another source, ie other than Google, doesn’t automatically equate to problems or Malware. It’s just the banks can’t verify the source and so block the opening of their app. In much the same way that most banks apps won’t work with rooted phones.

The source maybe absolutely fine and it’s perfectly fine to install apps from other sources. It’s just the bank doesn’t seem to trust anything that hasn’t come via the Google play store.

Just got off a long phonecall to HSBC, and during that idle wait found that Jean-Michel Jarre did an corporate album for them. Here’s the HSBC hold music if you want to hear it in non-potato sound quality. ‘Stadium’ is a bit of a hands-in-the-air club banger.

Good shout, it was meant to say “both Google and Apple”.

Haha no way is that Jean-Michel Jarre, I always assumed it was generated by a computer program. Can’t say I’ll be adding that to my Apple Music playlist any time soon.

On a seperate note, I can finally see my current account but no transactions in the insights tab, hopefully that’ll sort itself.

Does it really take this long to sort insights?

I’m not sure. The credit card has worked reliably since day 1, the debit card refused to turn on. I had to raise it with their tech team and now it’s at least doing that but not showing any transactions even ones where they were pending and now cleared.

I’m hoping that this starts to work soon as while it’s not something to leave or move about, I’m hoping they fix it properly soon.

First direct fixed mine within a day or two, so not sure why they can’t get it right

Email received today from HSBC stating that HSBC Premier Card benefits are changing.

More points to be earned. More partners to redeem points. Domestic & General insurance stopping amongst a few others.

Anything more specific or is that all they say?

For the free HSBC Premier card

Not sure why my post was flagged!

I think we’ve got a secret flagger

A few of my posts have been flagged for seemingly no reason of late.

Nice to see a slight tweak to the card and one I’ll likely notice, I never really bothered with the “extended warranty” perk it used to have.

On a side note my insights are finally fully working, but I don’t have any debit card data from opening until yesterday which is a little annoying.

Took their time sorting it out  I do flick to and from the HSBC app, just not ready to go all in as it needs a few tweaks. Notifications being the biggest one, and then bring back the lion card, or change the standard card given I’ll never get an advance account :joy:

I reckon they should make visibility of those who flag your posts, it’s the folk who hide in the background set to cause uproar, most likely those not allowed to post, but are allowed an account (it should be remove too)

Notifications have been fine from day one to be fair except for maybe the format.

And the app itself isn’t actually that bad. Perhaps the one thing I miss from Lloyds is that insights were better in that they reliably worked and you could set custom periods.

It’s way better than it was in that you can at least still see the actual transaction dates and the maps.

Insights could do with excluding transactions, it only really works if you’re 100% in on Lloyds.

Sort their notifications with vibrate, and speed, I could deal with the rest :grimacing:

HSBC notifications are rather instant. The maps stuff is good too.

Why do you think you’ll never get an Advance account Carlo? I just moved everything to HSBC and hoped that one day that might be on the card for me.

I’ve been trying for years but never had any luck :joy:

How do you try? Do you ask them in the chat?

You can simply check by going through the overdraft eligibility checker flow as it’ll show you what accounts you’re eligible for without a hard credit check.

Thanks for the advice, it says I’m eligible for Advance, but I don’t want to open a new account and there doesn’t seem to be an upgrade path?

There isn’t another path except arranging an hour long appointment in a branch on a whim they may or may not offer it to you.

Might as well just apply, move everything over eventually, doesn’t need to be right away.

You’ll also then have a bills account and a spending account kinda thing if that works for you.
