HSBC Chat

Yes, I’ve noticed this. That, and the fact you can see pending transactions on the credit card but not transfers does make you realise just how good the Lloyds app is.

Also my insights don’t work. I’m one day out of switching now from Lloyds and while I don’t regret it, I do hope this gets fixed soon as it’s something I really like to have.

EDIT: so transfers in do show, but they take a little while to show whereas payments seem to show near instant.

The nice looking card and also, you can use Global View (if you have HSBC cards in other countries)

Probably been raised before but never noticed them, I quite like the map implementation.

Does HSBC still only show the last 2.5 months worth of transactions in the app? That is a big one for me if you can’t see for at least a year.

I’m not too sure, it’s never been an issue for me as I’d never really look that far back.

It definitely has a window, mine is showing the last 3 months, after that you need to go to your statements

It used to be for me too then I realised I actually don’t care past a few months since it’s on a spreadsheet (categories) and if I want to see the detail I can look at statements.

I do, but it’s very temperamental. It was rare with Lloyds you wouldn’t see a map, the opposite with HSBC. There are merchants I shopped at with Lloyds where a map would show and now doesn’t, for example.

I suspect it’s because (and I prefer them so nice to see) HSBC opts to use Apple Maps (or native if android see google).

from X:
seems a bit concerning?

probably makes sense though? I guess they saw cases of fake malware via sideloaded apps?

Sounds more like Bitwarden needs an exclusion list when not to monitor or be active.

That would be the end of it for me for any Bank that pulls that kind of absolute nonsense.

I download certain apps from sources other than Play store so as not to give Google all my data and money.

No bank will tell me where to download apps from. Good riddance if they attempt it.

The big crime here is how poorly they have applied that screen protector.

Just came here to post this. Would be an immediate account close if Monzo did the same.

They aren’t, they’re saying they don’t trust it so they don’t have to provide banking services to you if you wish to use it :grimacing:

Didn’t HSBC always ban jailbroken phones? They used to on iOS at least.

I don’t know Android OS very well, but is this an app downloaded from an unofficial source?

Don’t all the banks ban them?

I have no idea, I’ve never jailbroken my device. I just know HSBC did.

If it’s not downloaded from Play Store it’s side loaded or from an unverified, secure third party.

People then wonder why fraud happens in some point in the future :grimacing:

HSBC blocked the beta iOS some years back, but all banks seem to be onboard with it now.

I saw this on X as well. It’s not concerning, if you side load apps, especially password ones, then you can understand why a bank would flag this. The bank can’t verify the source of the app and in their mind it could contain a Trojan or other malware.

My suggestion for a New Year Resolution would be to let us all stop using the made up term “side loading” and go back to using the real term “installing”.

Apple and Google have somehow convinced people applications are legitimate only if installed via their own closed app stores.

Did you know both Google can be court ordered to supply you (and just you, singular) a modified version of an app (say with a backdoor) without you knowing this at all? And as Google hold the signing keys, they control the entire process. You can never know if the app has been signed by the developer or by Google.

As opposed to getting an app directly from its developer (e.g. via GitHub through Obtainium, Accrescent, Fdroid); if you trust the developer, you trust the app.

Happy New Year everyone

Who’s the other party involved? (“Did you know both Google…”)

Side loading has several advantages, including security. You just need to know the source is legit.
