I doubt it - I switched away twice from HSBC then successfully applied for a Premier account.

I have a long standing back and forth issue with HSBC which involves opening and closing accounts and stuff that I just gave up trying to sort out. I think it’s fairly specific to me but their IT has stopped me being able to go any further than a basic account.

Out of interest, and I’m sure you have, but have you tried just applying as a new customer and allowing them to merge profiles in the background?

Yes, this is probably why I succeeded with the Premier account after having switched away twice before. When they accepted my application they used a brand new profile for some reason. I didn’t realise that they’d done this and kept logging into the old profile expecting the Premier account to appear.

That’s what I did and that caused so many issues!

Ah I see. I mentioned it because I did this as had no end of issues trying to open up a new account on my existing profile. I think it’s because years back It had issues.

Whereas applied as a new customer and same details; my account was up and running in 2 days.

Is it bad that I am tempted to order a physical secure key?

If you already use the Digital Secure Key, i.e. the app, they won’t let you have a physical Secure Key as well. You can only have one or the other, not both.

Has anyone managed to open HSBC Australia online? Keeps coming back with "we’re having technical issues " for me.

I’ve opened a UK HSBC account last night (plus a savings account and credit card) Was really simple and straight forward. Account details and app sign up was instant with no issues and all showing in app.
I linked my current account to Apple Pay but linking the credit card said it couldn’t do yet (even though the sign up stated I can link to Apple Pay and start using the card immediately). Phones customer support and they said I have to wait till the physical card and also make a first payment before I can link to Apple Pay (sounds like a load of waffle to me - but keen on know from anyone if this is true).
I did have an issue with the voice ID when calling through as apparently that was linked to my old profile. They had to reset it and go through the security again. After 3 attempts of them putting me through to the automated phone line to set up the “my voice is my password” setup, they eventually got the right phone number to put me through to set it up - so hopefully now my new accounts all show on my new profile. lol

I might have had to wait for a physical card for another account before to be honest - most cards need activating first doesn’t sound odd

This isn’t true, but it might take a few days naturally to process all the details across systems.

It’s definitely not true. In a day or so, maybe less it should let you add the CC to Apple Pay. You’ll still need to activate the card when it arrives.

Been accepted for Advance (and a credit card too). Not sure yet what I will do with it but quite fun to be back with HSBC for the first time since I was a student.

Sort of. If you’re a completely new customer then yes, it can take a few weeks. If you had an existing account it’ll appear in online banking.

Out of curiosity, checked my rarely-used-but-open HSBC Advance account. I switched from a 1989 MIdland account to a different HSBC account in August 1997 and upgraded that to Advance when it launched in 2007. For context, that’s 36 years, 28 years and 18 years respectively :eyes:

I had a mortgage with them until last year but no idea if they will match up the profiles.

Do HSBC let you set a standing order up to go out on the last working day of each month, like FD?

Looks like not much has changed in terms of the speed of account opening. Had a general email with T&Cs (but no account details) yesterday, a text followed by an Adobe link to sign the credit card agreement (but no credit limit shared yet) this morning. Still nothing showing in the app and nothing received by post.
