Not sure what can be done now, but the new Gmail icon is way too similar to Monzo.
When a new mail appears in the notification bar on Android 10 it looks like a transaction has happened on my bank account 
Be thankful that you don’t have the malwarbytes app on your phone

I think the notification “M” takes some time to get used too for sure, but not been mistaking the app icon mainly because they are in different folders.
It would be nice for some new customisable icons, maybe even the option to customise the notification icon but the question is, if we could change it what would you want to be able to change it too?

I don’t think the new Gmail icon is too close to Monzo at all. Being wider than it is tall, the Gmail icon is still recognisable as an envelope, and the (in comparison) fat, curvy Monzo icon is in no danger of being mistaken for an envelope.
I had far more trouble when I had Malwarebytes installed on my phone. I’ve since removed it, but those notifications were almost identical apart from one exaggerated serif on the Malwarebytes icon (as I recall), and almost impossible to tell apart at first glance.

In comparison, Gmail changed their logo to the current ‘Monzo-esque’ version in October 2020
I couldn’t find any filings in the UK, EU or US regarding the new Gmail logo, although didn’t waste too much time looking.
If it’s a case of who came first then it’d be Monzo as far as TM filings go. And it appears Google may not have any at all.

I am new to Monzo, just got my US Beta card. I immediately went to my Chromebook to perform a function after looking at my Monzo app on my phone for a bit and the GMail logo drew my eye right to it thinking it was the Monzo logo. I had to virtually step my mind back for a second and realized then how similar the logos are. Not sure who had the design first but boy oh boy are they almost identical. Can you lean toward using your great hot coral color to fill in the “M” and add some other dash of color? Your recognizable M should not go away but the color could dominate with the connection of your card. This is my first topic and I saw others have brought this up but as a new user, it gave me pause.

I think it’s unlikely that either company are going to change their respective logos because of each other.
