I’m wondering if that’s one of the reasons why they gave her the job; to make it easier for Nationwide to take over TSB.
I suppose it could be possible to go the other way, and mutualise TSB
Yes, Santander’s core banking platform is called Partenon and Alliance & Leicester, Bradford & Bingley and Abbey National records were all migrated over to separate instances of it before being merged into one and everything being rebranded as Santander. That phased approach seemed, to Santander’s credit, to go quite well.
On the other end of the scale, TSB tried to move to “Proteo4UK” (Sabadell’s platform Proteo, only tweaked for the UK) all in one weekend, literally overnight, and that didn’t go so well.
Both platforms were supposedly easy to migrate to as they had been developed to help the parent organisations merge with smaller Spanish rivals and consolidate records.
The point is that that account seems to be undermined by @RSheff:
I’m sure that the migration to Santandar systems happened, just that the truth is always messier than the spin and perhaps it wasn’t as comprehensive as it might have seemed at the time.
Monzo is mentioned as a ‘leading bank’ not part of it.
“Monzo has not signed up to the current agreement, having argued that its customers prefer to use its app rather than a post office.”
Except that you can’t pay cash in through the app.
Just about the only bank not part of it judging by that list!
The thing is, Monzo can see how the money flows in, and if it doesn’t work for the business it’s not an option they need to take.
I’m going to take a pretty informed guess and say that wasn’t all that was said to the BBC and that the full quote/statement probably looks a bit more rounded then that, and probably carries plenty of water.
Less susceptible to fraud if limiting options of cash input through the business.
Kinda frustrating that monzo are choosing to be different here.
“Monzo is a branchless bank, with customers able to carry out the majority of their banking needs through the Monzo app. Customers can also deposit cash at Paypoint, which is available in over 28,000 convenience stores, corner shops and retailers across the UK,” a spokeswoman for the bank said.
She’s clearly never tried using PayPoint.
Monzo has not signed up to the current agreement, having argued that its customers prefer to use its app rather than a post office.
And this makes no sense in the context of paying in cash.
(And, dare I mention cheques? Cos if it’s a cheque monzo apparently believe we all much prefer the post office to the app.)
And conveniently forgotten the fee for doing so as well…
