I heard about this too. Going to be really interesting if it happens.
Apropos of absolutely nothing, my DMs are open!

First Direct buy up Algbra and take over the (fin) tech world?
Also curious
I don’t think it will massively surprise anyone when the news comes out, the firm being brought has had investment from the buyer in September 21, when they last raised, and they are in the same space, so make sense and hopefully keeps good people in jobs
McDonalds Buying KFC
I’m basing this total guess on @Sachaz’s cryptic msg above
While I understand your frustration that you weren’t privvy to something that others were, publicly releasing what you think @Sachaz was referring seems to me the very definition of “childish, school ground behaviour”.
You might want to reflect on the impact that that might have on @Sachaz, the Community and on Monzo.
Cheers Peter for getting it, but next time I just won’t bother, because some people still behave like they’re in the sandpit in reception.
Just to say, I was quiet happy to pass on the goss that I hear in the industry, but sometimes the company names need to stay off the public space, and I would share in confidence via DM. Seems people don’t have basic respect for that, and that is the most childish behaviour you can imagine
He wanted kudos for knowing something and didn’t want to share that. Anyone can say they know something (like I did) and know absolutely nothing (like I do) and then in a few weeks claim you knew all about it.
It will absolutely zero impact on the community or Monzo. If it did and people weren’t allowed to hint at rumours, that would be a hugely positive outcome.
edit
As N26 says, it’s absolutely no different to the “Just tell us, enough people know” that goes on in the Chase thread about their surveys etc.
I’d happily have names the firms publically, once I knew the deal was 100% done, which is should be in the next couple of weeks, but some people sense of entitlement kicked in. That’s fine, won’t bother in the future.
BTW @Revels if you think I was doing it for the kudos, you’re bang wrong, that’s our friend in Manchester on his high horse about the school playground
BTW @michaelw90 asked me who the firms were on DM, and then shared it on it, just as we’re all being honest and transparent
If people ask off the public space then fine I’ll share, if people then want to share that in the public to look all big and clever, then knock yourselves out, it makes you look like an untrustworthy toddler
Gawd, I would happily take John Gruber type of money for doing that Apple gig moving forward!
I think if you go around saying you know something and you’ll DM what it is to people who ask, you are really just sharing it publicly at that point but just making more of a meal of distributing the information.
If someone thinks something should be kept secret, not mentioning it at all on a public forum seems wise.
The lesson for me here is not to share anything I hear, even at an early stage, that’s absolutely fine with me
I think that is a wise lesson to learn!
And the other lesson is there are too many moralising snide little so and so as well
I agree. You should not have said that you’d heard a rumour. You can’t really complain if you tell people privately and it then comes out.
If you didn’t want anything to leak, don’t tell anyone. And if you didn’t want to appear smug, don’t say you’ve heard anything in the first place.
As I said it’s fine, I’ll become a passive viewer of the forum, and stop replying to anything anymore. Keep it to the already smug to post
