Duplicate Payment warning after initial payment abandoned (via a joint account).

Issue:

I have two accounts (personal and joint). I transferred a sum of money from my personal pot to my joint account. I then went to transfer this amount to a third party bank account but, upon being asked for the PIN for my joint account (biometrics checks weren’t being used – I don’t know why as they are working for my personal account) I exited the payment flow (since I couldn’t remember my joint accont PIN).

I followed the flow for getting a reminder of my joint account PIN and then went to setup the payment again. Upon confirming that I wanted to send the money to the third party bank account, a dialog pops up warning me that this is a duplicated payment from 5 minutes ago.

I checked that the previous payment hadn’t in fact gone out (and couldn’t have since I didn’t provide a PIN or any auth for it) and it hadn’t. So it feels like a false positive; perhaps the abandoned payment was cached somewhere local and checked against when making my subsequent completed payment.

Details to reproduce:

I’ve not tried to reproduce this as I don’t want to send money by mistake, but the steps are:

  1. Set up a new payee in a joint account.
  2. Select the amount to send.
  3. Abandon the flow when it asks to confirm and send.
  4. Repeat steps (1) and (2)
  5. When completing payment, the warning dialog is displayed.
