Direct debit timings

Hi! It’s been well over a year since that post, and that might as well be a hundred years with how fast things move and change here.

We haven’t pulled any existing features that people already had access to, and put them behind a paywall. And the Plus experience by design, is about giving people multiple choices to make their own decisions as to what features or options are appropriate for them.

I’m afraid that I’m not in the trenches on Plus, so I have little insight into what’s coming and why those things are part of Plus - and although you’re more than welcome to challenge any opinions that I, or anyone else, has shared in the past, unfortunately I don’t have a huge amount to offer on how Plus is seen right now - that’s something that hopefully, the Plus team will be able to share a little more about directly.

I don’t believe that we are inherently less secure by not having virtual cards though - as Jonas has mentioned, we reimburse fraud regardless. A virtual card may make it easier to manage, and mean that you don’t have to replace your physical card if the details are compromised, but ultimately you won’t be out of pocket in either scenario.

I see so much discussion around virtual cards but as they’re something I’ve never used, for me they feel a bit like a solution looking for a problem.

I understand that some people are passionate about them and see all of the different scenarios offered up to justify them but none of them grab me as necessary for my day-to-day banking.

As a result I really, really struggle to see them as anything other than ‘cosmetic’.

I also understand that Monzo isn’t built around me alone (even though it should be!).

Virtual or one time cards are useful since you never have to expose your real card on the internet. I get you might be covered but if something happens then you have to freeze your card etc. With virtual cards you can destroy them and the risk in theory is gone.

Although personally I prefer to use PayPal.

I understand the theory but I’ve never had a problem with a real card on the internet since the internet was invented so it remains just a theory to me rather than something I see of any real, practical value.

At the point I experience a real problem, perhaps I’ll change my mind,. Who knows! :woman_shrugging:
