Delay lock on App Lock

An option for a delay timer, e.g. 5 minutes on the App Lock. Switching between apps (multitasking) means the app lock is currently being activated every few seconds which is not practical or necessary.

It’s not an awful idea, but I don’t use the app lock. Too much friction. My phone’s locked anyway and nothing vital can be actioned without having to pass security.

I’d argue having a lock on your app behind your already secured device is also unnecessary.

Say you’re letting some stranger call from your device, and you hand them the phone - Monzo’s security prevents them from accessing the app and transferring funds to themselves, without this, the stranger could do this and much more.

I’d argue 1 minute should be the maximum for the same reason above. Perhaps immediately, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 45 seconds and a minute - this is enough time to go back to Monzo and then switch again to invoke the 1 minute countdown again.

No-one can transfer funds without having to unlock the phone per transaction.

I’m not stupid enough to do this.

While I see your view, I still don’t think it’s necessary.

Though might do you good given how reckless you may be, allowing strangers take your phone and make calls.

Just use the app lock on iOS 18 if you have an iPhone

Amazing that the great saviour and noble hero of the village Carlo isn’t stupid enough to give his phone away to someone to make a phone call, I applaud you for that. However, some older audiences may, unfortunately, be willing to do that - and you can’t judge them for it. Not sure where your toxic attitude came from but here to match it all the way.

As said in the post above, not sure everyone is aware of that feature - especially older people.

Unfortunately you can’t really trust anyone these days.

When you sign up for Apple Pay, and I imagine Monzo itself as it’s an app only bank, terms often stipulate you agree to take responsibility that you are the only one who possesses your device

Therefore, if the stranger you voluntarily hand your phone to continues to run away and empty your account, I imagine you won’t even think about looking to be reimbursed unless the money can be recovered from wherever it was sent

Not a toxic response, just negligent on their part.

Guess you’re here to spew so I’ll leave you to your own demise.

Can we get back to the fact people can’t steal your money on Monzo even with an unlocked app. There’s security for every transaction.

They can’t assuming you haven’t made a mistake, such as re-using a password saved somewhere in plain text on your phone, or using a number like your DOB as your pin

Let’s not clutch at straws here. The Monzo app is secure. There’s a million made up scenarios that don’t exist. But facts are facts.

Edit: so even if app lock was on the perp could still guess the pin is 1234

The Monzo app always has been secure, yet they just spent months and therefore a lot of money to develop further opt in advanced protection, therefore they themselves think more is necessary

Like 99% of any security on a phone app relies on you not handing your phone to random people, I’ll happily assume the kind of person to do so also stores their pin in the Notes app

It’s amazing how quickly things go off-topic. This thread was about the app-lock. I was trying to say that while the OP’s idea wasn’t awful I thought it to be unnecessary as the unlocked app can’t be breached.

I apologise. Negligent, perhaps - it’s more to do with the fact that some people are too kind and don’t believe in the stories which say that you can get your phone stolen that easily.

Naive or maybe a little too trusting, I get it, 10 years ago I would’ve handed my phone to anyone asking to call home without a second thought, today in London you always have to think twice before taking it out of your pocket, that’s why it seems a little insane to me
