Death Care Industry

Slightly morbid topic at the face of it, but in some ways I actually find it somewhat comforting. Plus, it’s Halloween (almost).

This is apparently big business. And there’s quite a bit of tech and innovation in modern ideas.

So, Monzo community, what do you want to become when you die?

Cast into a sculpture?

Grown into a diamond?

Made into a firework?

Blasted off into outer space?

Turned into debit card?* or stick with the boring old traditional burial or ashes in an urn?

*as far as I can tell, this option doesn’t yet exist. But if there’s enough demand from you card collectors, there’s a potential gap in the market folks. Get innovating!

Just cremate me and throw me in the canal :joy:

Jokes aside, mums plot has space for 4 so if my time is up soon I’ll hopefully squeeze in.

Except it’s not! It’s just ballooned up to the atmosphere and then rained down on unsuspecting humans. I’d rather not get an eyeful of your remains if I happen to look up at the wrong time!

It’s all novelty ideas but I feel like some of these won’t have much of a future.

We hope it’s not!

Whole reason for making this topic honestly is that my view right now is:

Cremation (Aquamation even better): :white_check_mark:
Scattering them: :x:

I quite like the idea of having the ashes made into stones and then placing them in important locations. Same principle behind scattering, but with a lesser impact on the environment.

Some of my brothers parts were kept for medical science.

:face_holding_back_tears:

To be fair, it’s not something I’ve ever thought about.

I’ve always said I should be rolled up in a tarp and left out by the bins on collection day. j/k

Ideally I’d want simplest and cheapest, it’s just a body at the end of it, and I wouldn’t want a fortune spent on the disposal, but happy for people to have a party on me after that. I should really put something in writing.

Is there a modern app-based approach to wills and such? Surely this is an area ripe for innovation?

Now you mention it, not really!

It’s still as archaic as most of the insurance industry. Definitely ripe for innovation.

Though there is this for folks who are in England and Wales:

DeadHappy did try to disrupt the life insurance sector. They also crossed the line occasionally with their advertising… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Harvest my organs, if viable. Save lives.

Cremate me & then probs do whatever with them. I’m not overly fussed. Not bothered about being turned into something.

Maybe donate to medical science if there’s no close family around at the time of my death.

The thought of this makes it more appealing to some
