CYBG acquisition of Virgin Money

Only if they introduce swag and loot boxes. :grimacing:

I was with B (CYBG) for a while. Horrible app. But they paid me £250 for joining them for two months so that was ok.

But it just sounds wrong :hushed:

I’ll give you that - you couldn’t be more right. I highly doubt that’s what the American’s call it though, someone working at a paper probably just thought of the most horrifying way to describe it.

In America they probably refer to our chicken as non-cleansed or non-chlorinated - when you say it like that it sound as though it needs to be and we’re the weird people.

Edit: On topic, I like the Virgin brand - but their current account is one of the poorest offerings I’ve ever seen. The quicker they integrate that into CYBG the better.

CYBG announce it’s now starting the rebrand process ; B is the first to go and new Virgin Money Current Account due to be launched in December.

I wonder what brought them to the conclusion that virgin was a good brand over their others?

Also wonder what will happen to Clydesdale bank notes

Apparently Clydesdale Bank will continue on banknotes and will not be rebranded like the rest of the group.

Clydesdale Bank notes are set to survive a Virgin Money takeover as owner CYBG calls time on its 175-year-old brand.

The BBC has learned Virgin Money will continue to issue Clydesdale notes despite the promise to have the entire business rebranded by 2021.

Ah good find. That kind of says something to me if they’re not confident enough to have virgin money bank notes.

Maybe there moving away completely from traditional banking at some point

I also found the link above on another forum.
Page 10 shows the debit cards while page 19 appears to show (Albeit very small), the new look online app.

Heavy integration with other Virgin brands (as expected I guess!)

The cost to rebrand the bank notes would far outweigh any benefit, especially as cash is being used less and less every year.

They are keeping the Clydesdale banking license, trading as Virgin Money.

Wow. That’s an… interesting brand design.

The portrait card design seems copied in from Monese and Starling. What’s startling is ā€œVirgin companies have demonstrated an ability to charge a 10%+ premium vs. competitors for similar products & servicesā€. Sadly, I’ve never bought into the whole Virgin mystique and hype, and Branson these days seems to be someone who just licences his brand. This idea that Virgin guarantees quality is frankly risible.

I know at least from a Virgin Money point of view they never aim to offer the cheapest products but aim to try and provide a level of customer service which set them out compared to their peers. They are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but who is? The merger (or acquisition) with CYBG will allow the combined banks to provide competitive rates, with improved tech ( ā€˜B’ vs the poor basic Virgin current account) under a far more established and recognisable brand. Love or hate Virgin, they do have a strong brand and do a lot of things well.

I think their reputation is based on hype and good PR, but any customer of Virgin Media, Virgin Mobile, Virgin Trains etc will know that the ā€˜premium’ exists mainly in marketeers heads and not on the ground. There are plenty of halfway decent companies who don’t offshore most of their CS function to clueless call centres in the Far East rigidly reading a script (not even Virgin employees) and who score higher - much higher - than Virgin on satisfaction rates. Virgin are not kind to their employees, forbid trade unions (outside the rail industry) and have a pile of failed entries (and sharp exits) into a variety of markets that dwarfs their euccessful businesses. Stop swallowing the Virgin hype!

I wonder if this will ever be added as a connected account…
