Hi I am seeing hard credit search on my credit score, why is this. I have looked on help topics but only see soft search nothing about hard search
Have you applied for an overdraft or credit?

I Just opened the account. Could it be because there was a direct debit set up? I don’t really know how these things work, 54 and it’s the first time I’ve really had anything to do with banking etc other than savings account

Do you know the hard search came from Monzo or are you saying you see a hard search from someone else?
Yes it’s saying hard search came from Monzo. I never applied for an overdraft but they did give me a £50 overdraft
Taking the £50 overdraft (which is optional) will probably have caused the hard search but given its a v low limit it wont affect your creditworthiness much. The score may change but the score/number is made up really and isnt how the banks etc factor things as they have their own rules/scores.
The same thing happens with mobile contracts such as EE.
There isnt much point removing the overdraft as the hard search wont get removed but not using it will not be the worst thing as it shows you are not running out of money as it were.
