I think this has been raised already, but I can’t find the thread, and I think it’s an important issue to address.
Not sure it’s a good idea to count expenses towards the monthly spend. It skews the expenditure quite a lot, and I don’t like this at all. Currently, the app alerts me that my spend last month was £300 higher than average, although £400 of those were expenses, which will get reimbursed, so I haven’t actually spend those money – and my spend was, in fact, £100 lower than the average.
Agreed - I’d also like to not see transactions tagged as ‘Expenses’ included in total spend statistics, as technically it’s not ‘my’ total spend. Perhaps it could be given a tab of it’s own - so, Categories, Merchants, Expenses…
This is actually something I’ve been in a few conversations about recently — not just with Expenses, but being able to hide/show any transaction, as sometimes there are items that can throw off Your Spending. I don’t believe the hide/show for transactions is something to pursue (for the moment), but I definitely think there could be value in doing so with Expenses. I’ll put some designs together and discuss with the team.
I’ve been looking for thread topic along these lines as this is something I have done occasionally in the past for various reasons. As an example, maintaining the car is something I budget for so if I need to pay £400 then it’s a budgeted expense but it really throws of the months figures if it’s counted as a ‘normal’ expense. Hiding something like this from my day-to-day figures would thus be quite useful.
Not sure if there is a more recent thread but this is something I would love to see. With pots now available maybe something similar could be done with expenses as I get reimbursed weekly for expenses but pay off my amex monthly.
So I get reimbursed my expenses, transfer it to my expenses pot, and then pay using that at the end of the month. Ideally all these transactions are not shown as my normal spending.
