I’m getting married next year and am really struggling to find a fee free way to ask for donations to our honeymoon, without just sending account details/a payment link to one of our accounts.
It seems like a gap that Monzo could fill well, considering the pots/smooth transfers that are available elsewhere in app.
The issues with sending a payment link:
- even for our joint account, it looks like you’re just transferring money to just one of us to our main account
- if someone transfers using the link, it goes to our main balance - we’d like to keep it in a specific pot to save for a specific purpose (rather than the joint account that we use to pay bills)
- if payments go into the joint account, we’ll get notifications every time someone contributes - we’d like to keep the total amount secret to ourselves until after the wedding
- there’s no availability to add a message or any other personalisation on either side
How it could look:
- like the current pot structure, but with a shareable link similar to the ‘request a payment’ link
- link takes users to a landing page which shows a message from the couple, photo and has the ability to pay in
- users do not need to be monzo customers to contribute
- a hide transactions functionality (as is used for the 1p savings challenge) so we can hide how much is in the pot until our wedding
Paypal have a ‘pool’ function that works similarly, and can be used for other (non-wedding) circumstances. However it’s flawed because there is a short time limit on donations and users need to have a paypal account to contribute.
Me and my fiance are big monzo fans so would love to be able to use monzo for this.
