Thank you for taking the time to comment @AlanDoe , it’s much appreciated and it will be great to see you around a lot more
This sounds very exciting Is it something that the community is going to get a say in or will it all be discussed, decided upon and implemented behind closed doors?
This is something that we’re looking for interaction/input from the Community. We hope it to be a genuinely collaborative piece of work but like I said, it’s something we’re looking into so apologies if this has seemed like a movie teaser
When you try and join now, does it tell you that your account is pending? I can’t be bothered to test it (Or I might get banned for being a dupe!) but can it point towards something? Or give some info?
“Go to Help. Type ‘contact’ and then “Contacting Support” should be at the top which will give you the chat option”
That would probably solve most of what people want when they join.
And this one?
(Definitely needs an update with all the new things that have been added since then, Plus isn’t £3 for a start!)
I know most people have access to this info before they join here and could easily replicate it with a search, but people are lazy.
Now that I think about it, this is really a double hurdle, wouldn’t it be better to limit it for just the first post?
So what if trolls can join and not post anything?
To use what @N26throwaway just did as an example, lets say it takes an hour for someone to approve their account, but they don’t come back until 3am to post, then find another delay of a few hours until someone comes online?
We do have a Coral Crew Code of Conduct which exists on the forum which has been ad hoc revised between staff and the fine people who make up the Coral Crew. At the moment, it sits in a section which admins like myself and Rich can view.
To make sure we’re keeping it as transparent as possible, an updated version will be posted this week to highlight the incredible work the team carry out.
(Credit to @admdly for the image btw. Discourse has many great features and strengths, but embedding images from one topic to another does not appear to be one of them)
As a Beta user I’ve always found these forums to be toxic, full of people who are childish and argumentative and I for one would not mind if these forums remain read only forever. I know for a fact that people are put off from contributing because of the perceived group of individuals who always seem to be facetious, condescending and sarcastic. So please keep the forum closed it’s less upsetting.
We’re not planning to set the Community to Read Only so we’ll have to tackle that perception that you’ve mentioned. We’re currently working on that so we’d hope to win you over
