The trilogy in the new non premier world is mostly complete. I’ve decided to just leave the premier account to “time out” later this year and let HSBC deal with the faff of turning it into advance.
The red card looks much nicer in reality than I thought it would tbh.
Also, a moment of appreciation for what actual card quality looks like. The latter two have been up and around the world, in wallets, pockets, dropped - yet look with the odd ding more or less the same as day one.
Edit: Not sure why the middle card looks bent, it isn’t in real life!
I remember seeing this and wondering what they were thinking. The green was awful and nothing like the classic, the centurion didn’t stand out, and the font for the American Express wording looked all wrong. Add to that, the 4 digit card security code is almost unreadable and the embossed Member Since year is completely misaligned with the text.
I love the classic green and the modern take on it is not bad, but this one just didn’t do it for me.
Obviously some will love it, that’s just my opinion
I’m surprised how some people manage to keep the cards so pristine, my Amex is pretty battered (signature strip worn off, the numbers have started to rub off, the edging laminate is chipping ayway) as it’s my everyday spending card. Not due for a replacement until 2026, so I think it’ll hold out. The HSBC rewards card is very nice in real life, I have one as well for places that don’t accept Amex.
I find it really useful - I basically use it like a ‘pot’ when i had Monzo. I load it up normally over a few months before the holiday with the relevent currency (even all inclusive a family of four can cost!) and then spend when I’m out there on it instead of my main card. It bascially helps me budget and track spend when abroad.
With the exception of one restarant in Greece where it didn’t work, I’ve found it highly reliable elsewhere over the years.
