Collected Thoughts on Card Design (Part 2)

My Revolut standard is right side up, BUT my Revolut Pro card is upside down. Go figure.

Does anyone know is nationwide passbook is still available?

Also how much money do you need to put in their ISAs to get an ISA card?

I have one with the new logo (which was immediately cancelled - it was an overflow from my son’s old savings account):

The actual smile chequebooks (I may still have one lying around) have a more standard pink flash with the line-drawing smile, like their logo. I think they might have used other smiles in their marketing in the past but by the time I was a customer it was only the pink one and very occasionally the Cheshire cat.

What I almost certainly don’t have (but this thread has reminded me of) is my first Solo card from Bank of Scotland, from their youth account in the late 90s. It was black and had a shiny x in a circle on the front, and I think nothing else - the rest was all on the back. So far I’ve not been able to find any pictures online, but I feel like it would have stood the test of time.

I’ve been on a delve in the Internet archive and found some very old web pages about it - it’s got the x logo but alas no pictures of the card.

My RBS Premier Visa Debit on Apple Pay appears to have acquired a shine effect. I’m sure it’s not my imagination… when I move the phone around it’s as though there’s a fixed light shining on the card…. I haven’t spotted this on any of my cards before and I’m sure this hasn’t always been there…. Took a video but i can’t upload it so screenshots and imagination will have to suffice…

Heh, my purple RBS credit card does the same, as does my HSBC Rewards card, but can’t see it on others.

I imagine that’s an iOS feature rather than something they’re able to package with the card asset, but wonder why it’s only on some and not others.

How strange, doesn’t seem to happen with my HSBC rewards card. I’ll try and re-add it.

First direct does this too.

Ah yes, you’re right.

Doesn’t appear on my HSBC rewards card and that’s has connected balance. Doesn’t appear on my RBS credit card either. Mysterious.

@jo is correct it’s absolutely the open banking connection that causes this effect.

It is more difficult to see on some cards.

Here’s what the postman brought today:

Farewell, beige Nationwide.

lol no. It’s the All-Rounder Credit Card. Decent limit, 15 months 0% BT and purchases, 0.5% Cashback, no FX fees.

Here’s the actual thing. It’s rather nice, apart from the unaligned words:

Would look lovely with a silver Mastercard logo.

Some wonderful Chinese cards available I have posted some of mine on this thread.

On a side note I lived in China for 3 years and travel back for a month every year. Working in China is very diff than travel or exploring. 996 is very real work culture and unless you have a unique specialism job opportunities are not what they used to be.
Just thought I would share that.

Very nice. Really think Santander has some lovely cards out at the moment. Both the black and red ones are simple but work so well

Agreed, they’re my favourite portrait designs by far.

Had to look this up. It states it’s illegal. See 996 working hour system - Wikipedia

Does anyone else create their own app logo to show on the Home Screen?

I’ve designed them for Amex, Virgin Money, and RBS. Regarding the latter, I noticed they updated the app for Premier, and it now has this awkward white edge on the right-hand side. I couldn’t stand the sight of it, so I had to create a new one.

Share your app design replacements.

I use a shortcut to get rid of the ā€œUKā€ in ā€œAmex UKā€ but that’s it
