Collected Thoughts on Card Design (Part 2)

Really?

Halifax is a massive brand though.

It is massive. I said there’s talk of it, because people are wondering whether Lloyds want to continue with separate brands, now that Lloyds and Halifax are basically the same, or whether it would make sense to rebrand Halifax as Lloyds. The talk doesn’t mean it will happen, though.

I do actually really like these new Lloyds designs. A good mix of modern whilst still being their traditional branding

Kinda don’t like the platinum card being green. I don’t know why.

Probably because there’s nothing platinum about it apart from the name. Mine had only the standard 0% purchases and balance transfer offers for 18 months. Nothing more. Offer ended, it is now a basic card that I am going to close and wait a short time then repeat. I am not eligible for the Ultra as I already have a cash back credit card with them.

All my non-Visa and Mastercard cards, no Amex for now unfortunately.

The bottom left is the HSBC HK One ATM card which is a UnionPay and has the logo at the back.

The Diners Club card has been discussed here Flykk Diners Club Debit Card It’s currently the only Diners Club card issued in the UK.

МИР (mir) is the Russian card network. YooMoney ships them overseas and allows topping up with a foreign card. It’s a convenient option for foreigners on temporary visits as foreign networks no longer work there. I ordered the default design and the limited edition design on the far right. It displays zmei gorynych, a creature from slavic mythology, it’s eyes also light up on the card when you pay (but nfc contact triggers it too). I mainly got these for my card collection, if you want to know more just search up how to get a mir before travelling to Russia.

But it looks sooooo pretty

It does look decent to be fair.

I’ll leave my Russian connections at Revolut for now :joy:

Interestingly, when I funded the YooMoney account with a foreign Visa, in this case my Wise card, to pay for the Mir card. It showed the transaction as being routed through Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

This is once again due to sanctions forcing them to acquire through a neutral country. They only accept Visa cards for foreign card top up and only in USD, the Russian Ruble to USD exchange rate was pretty bad too but it’s by far the easiest way to top up the account. I used Revolut the first time which didn’t show the acquiring country but used Wise the second time as I was told by Russians themselves that Revolut is allergic to any transaction relating to Russia but it turned out that Ru wasn’t even involved in the top up transaction.

It was sarcasm.

I guess entities can still make a broad assumption on risk that the money is going to country on the naughty list so can stop it.
