Collected thoughts on card design (Part 1)

Generally if its a current account it’ll be a hard search. Some banks have started to do a soft search first but they don’t seem to differentiate between which kind of search it is. They should tell you, somewhere, that a search of some kind is being done.

If its prepaid or something it’ll be likely a soft search or no search.

Thanks, I thought it was that but wasn’t originally sure.

At one time I thought it was just for loans until I started to get them and just went clueless.

I don’t know if anyone else has Monzo Business / Pro but I always opted for Pro when I got my card and downgraded because I preferred the Pro Card better than the lite card (because its not embossed). However it would be nice if Monzo made a nice white card. I am addicted to white debit cards at the moment and cant stop loving the look of our pleo cards.

I made some mockups whats everyones thoughts?

I fully agree with you and I’ll complain at that too, you’ll think it’ll be done at the end of the application.

I applied recently, declined :man_shrugging:t3: anyway, I don’t recall them telling me they’d carry out a hard check either.

Might have to take another look

I found my two old hot coral cards and one is a slightly lighter colour than the other  doesn’t show up in pics but definitely a variable.

Long time browser of this thread, first time poster.

My current card collection:

Left column is what I carry in my wallet, middle is active but left at home, right is old.

Biggest regret is that I closed my HSBC current account to replace it with one from NatWest (as I had to have an account before getting their credit card that I wanted), what I should have done is upgraded it to a HSBC Advance account, and then tried to get their rewards credit card, so I could have had these beauties:

advance-debitrewards-credit

Their old Premier cards were gorgeous too but I wouldn’t have qualified for those. I think their current designs are a staggering downgrade on the lion.

Current favourite designs here are the Amex, HSBC credit, and honestly the Tesco credit too, the blue is nice and has white embossing. Also like the classic first direct design, the Gold credit has gold embossing. New M&S card which arrived this week is awful compared to the sleek black one, so using the old one until the day is stops working.

Uses for each one:

Nationwide and NatWest credit for every day mid-sized purchases, Nationwide as primary and NatWest as backup (also Visa/Mastercard split in case of major network issues). NatWest also has 0% foreign currency fees. Tesco and M&S for shopping and fuel only in each (BP for M&S). Amex for larger purchases in first year for cashback offer, Chase for daily petty cash spending. first direct and Nationwide primary bank accounts, NatWest and Monzo not really used (awkward). first direct credit for online and recurring payments/subscriptions, Barclaycard has 0% foreign currency fees too. HSBC not really used but has highest limit, Lloyds and other NatWest have historical transfers. Each card with a purpose and known balances on each which is how I likes it.

I do love them, sadly I’ve never had a chance to actually use them. First one I had was when I was freelancing as a sole trader, then I switched it to a company account when I tried to go full time (in February 2020 so that went as well as you can imagine), and then had to open a new one when I went back to freelancing on the side. It’s supposed to make a meow sound from the app when you use contactless. But love the plain white design, and it feels like a strangely well made card compared to some others.

Nice collection!

I still think the sainsburys bank card looks more like a loyalty card with all the circles tho.

Yeah I never liked it, that one was a means to an end with a balance transfer offer, never left my desk drawer and never even signed the back, closed it once I got the NatWest ones.

Thought it was the curve logo but first time I’ve seen that design thought it was MCO at first

I found a bunch more cards I had in a box and my old card holder.

When my Revolut one’s deliver I may order them out a bit for a snap.

Also found my blue Monzo card. Just missing the juicy green now :expressionless::joy:

Did you get your pink?

Not sure about Ulster bank accounts if not a NI resident, would they redirect you to NatWest site possibly? I think gold card was a credit check, just seemed like a normal application on Amex website, saw was a 8/10 chance of getting it on credit club website so went for gold and cancelled green for a pro rota refund. Gold is credit and green charge as I’m sure your aware, I do hear you could go green then platinum without a credit check but…… now there is an idea.
