Collected thoughts on card design (Part 1)

Now I’ve heard this “old lady’s handbag” comparison I can’t stop thinking of it every time I see a Starling teal card.

I really did prefer the old purple one.

Yikes it’s my :shortcake: day (six years!) in eight days.

How old are you today my man

The cake day they’re referring to is the date they joined this community, not their birthday.

It shows a full cake (rather than a slice) when it’s their birthday if the user has added the date to their profile

You mean you didn’t answer ASL with [age]/Yes/Your place?

I do prefer the Halifax one as well, a although not a fan of the logo essentially being on the card twice but it isn’t too bad on this one.

As posted previously, this was their horizontal card:

I do actually like that portrait one quite a lot, but the contactless logo does appear to be in a strange place.

I do wonder how the portrait card would look in the app though. Unlike Natwest which had essentially the same design for portrait and landscape, the RBS ones are completely different. Would be strange to have a completely different design in the app compared to the actual card.

This is how it looks according to the RBS page on Google Play

Pretty awful!

I really don’t like these randoms hanging out in my app!

Looks really nice in reality. At first I thought it was a landscape one cos that’s how it’s stuck to the paper.

Looks even nicer in the wallet

Not going to lie, but it is growing on me. It is definitely better than their landscape version of it.

You guys have been spoiled - lovely designs! Not too long ago Barclays gave me the option of using a photograph to design my debit card - I chose what I thought was a lovely picture of Edinburgh (rush hour traffic Princess Street) - it was a poor choice in hindsight, I struggle to read my card details!

I still have my original purple starling card stored somewhere lol

I do agree here. Portrait cards look so empty and apart from Natwest, essentially all the designs have been the same, just with a different logo and colour.
