Collected thoughts on card design (Part 1)

Just got a Business Pro card through the post today (for reasons which I won’t go into here but let’s just say I had yet another shocking experience with customer service to get it).

This replaces one of the very first pale grey all embossed cards which was due to expire in July.

Beautiful card, lovely quality, but an oddly schizophrenic design.

My name, card number, expiry date and cvv are printed on the back of the card. But our company name is embossed on the front. I don’t dislike it but it just looks a bit… odd.

Edits because it’s Friday night and apparently I can’t type.

Further edit - if Monzo went for the same quality for the basic hot coral c/a and j/a cards I’d be very happy. I’m a Plus customer but have no desire for the horrible blue card.

Looks like a corporate fleet fuel card. One of the crap ones.

No it doesn’t - I used to have one and that really was awful!

I like the layout. I like the colour (which looks the same as the newer HSBC ‘Gold’ credit cards, which are so far removed from Gold that it isn’t funny) - but this colour is intentional and looks very different and good.

But lose the embossing. Everything printed, on the back please. The aforementioned HSBC credit card is printed. Monzo Premium is printed. Chase is printed. Embossing needs to go.

Yes, that’s how I feel. The cards are for small business users, it says “Business” on the front of the card, I don’t need to be reminded of my business name and so… Print it (front or back) or just don’t bother with it.

Would be interesting to ask Monzo if it’s possible to have them leave the business name field blank when ordering the card. However I’ve still not recovered from my support experience 2 days ago so I’m not going there yet…

If only it could go on all cards.
I’d be one very happy bunny.

I made a post on here a while ago where I photoshopped the embossing off the front. It looks so much better without it!

Is that the new NatWest card???

Very nice card, that the free or fee paying card? Have got myself an Amex green card, with the plan to upgrade to platinum any years i have a few trips away.

I actually wanted a charge card, have a larger limit and forced to pay off each month.

It is a nice card. S75 not issue for me most of time as it will be used for shopping and fuel most months mainly. There is insurance benefits with it, like extended warranty I think. Nice to have but not a deciding factor

Shame I was turned down for one :sob:

Is there a ‘high’ criteria for avios card? I cancelled my Barclaycard forward few months back so I can apply for cash back Barclaycard (have to wait 6 months to apply and can only have one Barclaycard) since then avios has been launched also.

I think I remember when I originally posted about being turned down for the Avios Barclaycard that they weren’t the easiest card to get.
I didn’t really need the card, but as I have a BA Amex, I thought it would be a good way of still being able to collect Avios when I couldn’t use the Amex.

Yes good idea so you can collect points even if Amex not accepted.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned but the premium card is one of the nicest bank cards I own.

Can’t bear to part with it even though I’ve gone back to plus :joy:

It’s one of my favourite too, very clean design.

As I’ve said many times before, any non embossed card will always get my vote.

I agree it’s a more modern look, only downside is makes the card even more flimsy I feel. Cards are so slim now.
