Collected thoughts on card design (Part 1)

You don’t like it?

:joy: I like the old design, I will probably keep using Apple Pay then

Don’t get the hype with those NatWest et al. cards. One of the most boring designs out there.

I don’t think that the NatWest group has the best track record on card designs. The only one I really like is the latest RBS Premier Visa debit.

That one they don’t issuing to anyone now…

I would say that the Ulster Bank cards are very good, but that’s about it.

You have to have originally opened the savings account in branch and requested a card when it was opened; they can’t issue a card afterwards, and you can’t order a card when it’s opened online - I tried several times with CS and they were consistent that it wasn’t possible.

Do they still do founders card?

Weren’t these the folks that “inched” artwork from others and passed it off as their own?

Nice card but it’s a no from me.

I know that’s why I asked the question vs making the direct acquisition.

If it’s above board then fair enough. Still a no from me.

Even better in dark mode

Are those US only?

The Indian and Sri Lankan design of the Premier card is quite nice.

Apparently it also comes in a fancy box:

Think revolut ultra is the only impressive card delivery option around.

The majority are glued to paper, or a piece of card.

Oh my, I absolutely love that box!

Imagine going to someone’s house though and opening a box hoping to find cigars or something, and a load of bank cards fell out instead

Yes! Loved the case my ultra card arrived in

If I had that box I’d take it shopping with me and whip it out at the Aldi checkout, maybe even put on some white cotton gloves before removing the card in hushed reverence and bipping the contactless card thingy.

I feel like vertical cards can be good as some of my favourite designs currently are vertical (Santander, RBS), but so many banks have just decided to go “let’s chuck our logo on it and leave it like that” which just looks boring. I don’t think the cards being vertical are to blame, but rather the banks not designing anything remotely interesting anymore.

Am I the only person that likes embossed cards?

Having the details on the front. I just prefer that myself

Much prefer the details on the back. Makes the front seem a lot less cluttered and means designs can be appreciated a bit more.
