Collected thoughts on card design (Part 1)

The Bank of Scotland one is the best design.

The Lloyds Banking Group cards are all variations of their respective brands’ themes. As are the Santander and TSB cards. Lloyds Bank’s cards all have lovely subtle variations.

I prefer the Barclays design here, over the debit card design.

Smile is very glossy. Interestingly there isn’t a Co-operative equivalent.

Nationwide hasn’t been updated to match the new debit and credit cards, and NatWest don’t do cash cards any longer.

Did you end up going to Lloyds, Halifax and BoS branches to get the cards?

First Direct used to do a cash card for their savings account, but they discontinued it many years ago. It was all white, to contrast with the black debit card.

I called Lloyds, and popped into Halifax and BoS branches as I was passing both in the last couple of weeks. The accounts already existed. Both Halifax and BoS took about two minutes to order me a card, quicker than calling.

(To be honest, you could probably order Halifax in a BoS branch and vice versa, they use the same system.)

Yeah I’m sure by memory we were told can deal with multi brand, being MBNA, you could (by telephony team knowledge) do some bits in a LBG branch for your credit card.

Speaking of BoS. My card arrived today, I like it.

Is the BoS a new design or the existing one?

Well it’s a different place in its series of Scottish locations depicted on each of the cards. Not sure I understand what you mean by a ‘new’ or ‘existing’ design.

I saw somewhere a portrait card was being issued, just wondered if it was that :man_shrugging:t3:

This one.

It’s a landscape card with embossed numbers on the front, but it doesn’t have the image of the standing stones which @Carlo1460 has posted above, because it’s not a debit card.

It’s clearly shown in the picture I posted?

Lloyds Group banks have transitioned to portrait cards for their 11–15 year olds’ Spending Account, but only Halifax has (so far) aligned the whole card range to portrait.

Ah I thought they were asking me bout mine (sure it was a reply in the notifications). Nvm

Gotcha! Yes I also had a reply in the notifications!

I like the BoS designs, and the matt finish feels sturdy and quality.

Aye I was expecting shiny but the finish was nice.

I’ve no purpose for the account but it’s nice to add to the collection

I’ll have to start grouping up some cards by bank, and write some more detailed reviews of my ever–growing collection.

I got to order my poppy one from revolut today, I’ll have had the majority

Hold on there’s a savings card?? What’s the point of that?

They allow you to withdraw cash directly from instant access savings accounts without first logging on to transfer the funds to your current account.

When Smile was my main bank (post First Direct, pre Monzo for about 18 years) those cards were a major contributor to landfill - every single one was cut in half and binned when it arrived.

“Brenda!”

“Yeah?”

“HE’S ORDERING ANOTHER ONE”
