Citibank UK

Does Citibank offer UK Current Accounts anymore?

Yes I believe so, but via their wealth management division so you need to meet premier type assets or income.

This, plus it’s invite only I think

They exited UK retail banking, so the only option left is their private bank. They can waive minimum Aum if you are a magic circle lawyer, but it’s pretty strict otherwise. CPB also makes it very clear that they do not offer third-party payment facilities and current accounts - they have call deposit accounts instead.

Citi’s international personal bank operations in the US/SG/HK/UAE are still open to UK residents though, and you can get current/checking accounts and debit cards.

I think they effectively closed their UK operations with rather bad timing given 20/20 hindsight. Chase coming in after app banking became a thing seems likely to make a reasonable go of it whereas Citi just never picked up enough customers to make it look viable and so it was always niche.

That said, Citi was quite good for its day. Free international use and you could use Citi ATMs anywhere as if it were a UK one. You could even deposit cash and cheques via Lloyds. And get a US checkbook. Credit cards too.

Had to deal with Citibank UK regarding probate for a relative. They were dreadful to deal with. Their CS was either in Singapore or the Philippines. Very unsympathetic. They wouldn’t advance funeral costs and when they finally did the payment was duplicated. At that time to have a account required a min balance in the region of £75,000.
