They actually had a text explaining it and they asked for feedback. It was basically a wall of text that could have been summarised in 3 bullet points
I hope you fed that back!
I didnāt get this survey so no idea what any of it entails besides what was shared here and at the other place.
I always think āis this free money?ā and the answer is yes.
Takes zero away from you, adds no trouble or points of issue. Not much but itās Ā£10 you wouldnāt have otherwise.
While banks are charging for some fairly basic features (sorry Monzoā¦) getting Ā£10 back can cover someoneās coffee for a few days.
Well, Iāll have to think has it been 90 days can I get my money out etc, while I could have it in any one of >=5% instant access accounts, get it out any time while keeping the interest it earned for as many days as it was in there (while with Chase you donāt get a part of the Ā£10).
Itās way too small an incentive for a lot to ask.
It seems more like an extra bonus if you happen to keep it in there longer, rather than something youād keep track of more like the Zopa boost pots.
Personally I donāt really see that as much hassle and is your responsibility. Your bank isnāt there to do everything for you.
That being said, thereās every chance that there will be a pop up stating you lose your Ā£10 if you withdraw.
While youāre not incorrect with the above, itās almost like you really wanted an issue to be found with this basically free money and tried super hard and found a minor thing that isnāt even a thing. If you have that much in your savings account you will most likely know how long youāve had that money there for.
Theyād need to have a cash ISA if they want to make the money sticky like that. With the changes coming to ISAs in April, I think thereāll be more movement between providers, especially now that interest rates take us over the personal allowance with fairly low balances.
Youād be able to get your money out at any point though which has still be generating some interest - youād just miss out on the bonus.
I also got a survey - but mine had the time limit for qualifying for the bonus payment being 12 months not 90 days.
I suspect at the moment instant access savings accounts are a bit too āinstantā for banks with a lot of people literally moving money around every day chasing the savings account with that extra 1% of interest so I assumed this would be a way for Chase to reward those that stick with them for a significant time.
I didnāt do the sums and checked so donāt know if the reward they would give you though would be more or less than the interest youād get if you put your savings into a different bank.
I didnāt have to try at all, the pointlessness was dead obvious
Of course itās a minor thing, it just makes their proposed product useless for me when I can put the same money in another >=5% savings account and not have the extra mind burden.
For Ā£5k savings, the Ā£10-after-90-days is roughly equivalent to an extra 0.85% interest, bringing the total AER to 4.95%.
If you say soā¦
Banks who give you less money for free are still currently available, thankfully.
Chase are having issues with bank transfers and online payments it is noted in thier app.
Yep my app is borked and just errors out.
The app is mostly not erroring for me now which is good.
Wonder what they did to have it mess up that badly?
To be fair it happens with all banks at some point and other than the odd maintenance and outages each month that appears on their incident history itās not too bad.
The more modern banks like Monzo and Chase at least try to report it and Chase seems to have learned from the huge outage and lack of reporting the outage occurring a while ago which was a big blot on their status reporting.
I always tell folks to have a second bank card and account with enough slush for a weekends spend just in case itās prolonged with any bank.
Agree. I have four active current accounts, all with enough weekend money in them, just in case. R-
I can understand why Monzo and now Chase choose PayPoint. Thereās so many of them, open later etc etc. Much better options than the closing down post offices with short opening hours.
BUT
Did they not do any research in to how Monzo get on with it? Tough for Monzo to know in advance that it was a bit of a pain for lots of people, mostly because of clueless staff. But Chase have a huge advantage that they can see how it work/didnāt work for a competitor. Maybe they donāt care!
It may be different in England now, but here in NI, there is a post office in every village shop, and many of them are open 7 days 8 to 8 or similar hours, so itās still very convenient to use them for cash. I have yet to see a PayPoint here (although I am aware itās a totally different market here and also we are in the sticks).
